Hex - If and when will it return

Sorry, I've got no info on the other closed rides. What I understand is that Alton did not carry out the winter maintenance on some of the rides (due to money restraints), hence why they didn't open this season.

As for Towers area, like I posted a few months ago, sounds like they are regenerating the Towers area, what this entails I don't know. I also posted on here a possible upgrade of Hex, possibly making the ride experience longer. I did hear rumours a month or two ago that they were looking into the possibility of adding VR to Hex, I didn't post this info back then as I didn't have 100% proof this was going to happen, but I have been informed that due to the recent court ruling and the fine, the idea of VR on Hex definitely won't be happening due to not having the money to do it, a big blessing in disguise :) I 'm also on the understanding that the staff have recently been training up on Hex in preparation for the possibility of it opening next season. So I'm keeping my fingers cross :)

Is it bad that I'm genuinely happy at how large the fine was now that it means hex wont be ruined by another gimmicky VR addition. Id love to see an upgrade, but only if it works with the traditional nature of hex - everything bring real effects and subtle qualities (like the UV portraits). I've always loved that everything in hex has been real, unlike other dark rides that have resorted to gimmicks and technology that often breaks (think duel or DBGT)

Let's be real though, the fine might have been a lot for Towers - but surely not for Merlin. I mean it has cost them money and all but if they wanted to put vr on hex (please no) I don't think money would be an object if it would boost visitor levels

You know that rumour that Steven Spielberg has final say over the ET ride at US which is why it has never been touched after all these years? Yeah I want that.

Basically Wardley stood at the top of the steps shouting 'you shall not pass!' to the evil that is 'Merlin Magic Making' as they approach with their green screens, VR headsets, Ipad feedback scores and vinyl wallpaper wrap.

Leave.Hex.Alone.

I'm scared at this news of this "changing" implement on hex and hope that it isn't true.

I would be happy for it to be the same in the sense of the story (which I love)
Also the music, don't touch the music!!!

I would like to see original/more theming in the queue line as it was a terrifying vision seeing the bodies of the past earls wrapped and mounted on the walls.

Sound on the ride to be better with better lights/strobing.

As for VR, that gets the finger...

Don't worry, Hex won't be getting VR in the foreseeable future. As far as I'm aware they were looking into VR, but never went beyond that and who knows, this might have just been nothing more that just rumours doing their rounds. I'm just over the moon and relieved for what I got told over the summer is not going to happen. :)

I presume that the VR would have replace the need for the revolving room and the need to fix the gear ring.

I think VR is great, but it's a bit like 4D cinema, the novelty soon wear's off. You still can't beat having good old fashion themeing that is real.

Don't know if it has anything to do with hex itself, but yestarday I noticed a sign outside the enterence of hex (which I assume was put up recently, I've never noticed it before) saying "vehicle access required at all times, keep clear". I don't know I it is actually about hex or the general area around fountain square, but I heard a suggestion that it may be for work going on around hex.
That sign would be to stop travellers congregating in large groups. One appeared at the archway entrance to the Towers area (on the walkway up from X Sector) either Easter Sunday this year or Scarefest last year. :)

Sorry to disappoint. :p

Ah right. Never saw it before so I was just hopeful something was going on. Actually, there weren't any travellers yesterday. Towers put on all their security and none turned up.

Still, wouldn't suprise me if they did consider vr. Merlin have already proved that they are willing to use vr on a dark ride, and that they are capable of relaunching an older ride with a vr addition.

Sort of related to hex, kind of. I found this short film yesterday about the chained oak:

I just want people to appreciate how deep the original legend goes. Definitely worth a watch if you want to get excited for hex's possible reopening.

I would guess the Vr rumour came around when they wanted it in the park but they just chose Galactica instead.

You would have thought they'd have learnt their lesson from Galactica and Derren Browns ghost train. Geez :banghead:

Not sure how accurate that rumour is but what I am sure of is that Spielberg won't care too much when it is replaced by something Nintendo that brings even more guests to the park and more money for him! ;)

In terms of this VR on Hex rumour - I've not heard anything myself and find it very hard to believe. I'm sure there's a good chance it's something they've mentioned as an idea somewhere along the lines but I do not see how on earth they would ever make it work.

:)

Let's hope it isn't like the Chained Oak thing from recent. That was basically Blair Witch so camcorders shaking and bugger all happening for 30 mins

I'm going to assume that towers considered vr on hex before they saw how DBGT went. Given that they are already having to change the video for ghost train, id be very surprised if they still thought vr would be an improvement.

This VR could just be rumours or someone (several people actually from different departments) pulling my leg. I was sure I posted something about a possibility of an upgrade to Hex back in July, but I couldn't find it and I thought that I was losing the plot, until now https://towersstreet.com/talk/threads/2017-new-attractions-for-cbeebies-land.4086/#post-170842

I posted the following back on the 4th July in the above thread link

On my visit a couple of weeks ago, the staff was very tight lipped about Hex. I was told it was definitely not going to open this year and that it was all part of the regeneration of the towers/cloud cuckoo land.

There was a hint that Hex might be given a complete make over/re-theme and the possibility of the ride experience made longer. But I couldn't get a definitive answer. I was told it was going to be very good.

I just hope that we don't get VR added to it. Hex is brilliant as it is, please leave it alone!

This information at the time came from two separate staff members, one working higher up than your usual ride/catering staff, I was informed it was going to be something really good, but they couldn't say anything more than that. At the time of posting the above quote back in July, I hadn't been told that it was going to be VR until a month later. My reply was "you are joking", I was told "no they weren't joking and were definitely adding it, but a lot can still happen between now and next year, so it might not happen"

I'm glad the latter is happening :)
