2017: CBeebies Land Hotel

Just goes to show how completely out of touch with the world Towers marketing department is when they can't even grasp where their target audience is, or that a child must be at least 13 years old to have a Facebook account.

I know, I mean why even bother with a hotel or a theme park aimed at them, it's not like they have bank accounts or jobs to pay for it either...

... if only these little beggers had legal guardians over the age of 13 who could see this stuff and be marketed at.... ohh wait!

Based on all the tags on their page it's getting an audience draw. Though with any luck they will not pay the ridiculous prices they are charging for this tat.

This is a social media campaign on Facebook aimed at kids that are too young to even have an email address, yet alone a Facebook account  ;)

Except the video is aimed at the parents to show their children and enjoy together. The parents are the ones with the money after all.

Isn't the whole idea is to target the kids first who then pester their parents in parting with £400 to spend the night at the hotel. If I was a parent of little ones, at those hotel prices, I would be doing the opposite, I be deleting the Video and hiding any advertisement for the Hotel from my little ones ;)

Yes but putting adverts on TV costs money, a Facebook video is effectively free and small children who watch CBeebies are less likely to see an advert anyway as there are no adverts on the BBC!

100%

And agree most parents would be hiding that from their children. Unless they're loaded, money no object type people, who are few and far between tbh. Those people also generally have high standards, but Merlin's standards wouldn't cut it.

The whole idea is exposure and at this point in the project even a decent park would be using social media to sell and leave the heavy guns (expensive TV campaigns) until closer to opening.

Also the BBC cannot easily advertise the hotel on their CBeebies output due to advertising restrictions so this is a way of getting the "characters" to do some pushing without breaking any rules and the kids like the characters,

Plus parents these days don't need "little genetic lottery" to get them to spend, they need to keep up with "other little genetics lottery's" mother at the other side of the playground, thats where the battle for marketing will fall.

Merlin are crap at operating theme parks, but they know how to market, you only have to see the number of people moaning on here yet also own a VIP annual pass to see that.

I know that there has been lots of people moaning about the price of the new hotel, not just on here, but other social media sites.

I can say as an ex businessman that the pricing has got a lot to do with supply and demand.

The following is what will create that supply and demand pricing

1. From what I understand is that the CBeebies hotel has the least amount of rooms compared to the rest of the resort.
2. Also being a new Hotel, people are going to want to be the first to try, don't forget that EV prices were very high on the first season of opening
3. As Dave suggested, putting prices up can also have the opposite effect and people who like to up their status can spend on the basis that they can show off to their family and friends they have the cash to splash out.

Roy :)

ps..when do I moan on here? most of my post are tongue in cheek comments ;)

I find this to be an increasingly common thing amongst people I know.

Its an unfortunate consequence of the Facebook era that we live in.

Such a wasted opportunity... the Mr Men series by Roger Hargreaves, would have been a way better IP for the Merlin we know and love...

So many great characters, such as...

Mr Greedy
Mr Mean
Mr Rush
Mr Grumpy
Mr Lazy
Mr Uppity
Mr Rude.

If I knew how to insert pictures, then I would.

Of course I'm sure Merlin's team could augment these with fascinating new characters, for example,

Mr Closed
Mr Cuts
Mr Fence

and of course... Mr Money.

Oh, nearly forgot that Merlin is an equal opportunities employer, so

Little Miss Bad
Ltitle Miss Fickle
Little Miss Greedy

What's that... sorry..no Little Miss Magic... she's away for TLC...

Just cancelled my booking for the octonauts room I made the day they came out and rebooked it today with the 25% off sale, massive saving! Was quite surprised they let me do that, still paying way over the top but pretty decent service I thought. Booking is for middle of august too so I think they are struggling to shift them

Does anyone have any construction updates?
