Honestly, the only Dive Machine I've done is 'Blivvy, so I can't really comment. It does seem to have one of the more interesting layouts for the ride type.

I think the thing with dive machines is that they're perhaps not that great for us enthusiasts, but to general theme park go'ers they're still intimidating as hell. Out of everything at Alton Towers, for many Oblivion is still the one that gets them scared the most.

As much as some of us may have been on plenty of these, there's still only 10 operating with another 2 coming this year so many visitors will have never experienced them.

So despite the paint by numbers feel of the layout when it comes to dive machines, this is looking like a great addition to Liseberg. I'm looking forward to heading back once it's all open .

When Krake first opened people on the park were entranced by it, like when you had tonnes of people stood in Blivvy's pit just to watch...

Problem is the mini DMs are very similar to a fashion... There's very little difference between Krake, Baron or Oblivio from a ride perspective, as they all follow similar patterns...

But whilst they might be 'meh' in the grand scheme of things, they are all fun and more enjoyable than most other ride types... An awful B&M tends to be better than an average Intamin after all...

To make way for Valkyria the Sagoslottet dark ride will be demolished and the Wave Swinger relocated in the park. The park have said Sagoslottet will be replaced with a new similar dark ride in a few years time.

Part of the problem with dive machines is even the 6 across models are quite bulky, this makes quick transitions hard, therefore a layout of significant length is space consuming in the extreme.

Think this might be part of the reason for their formulaic layouts

This looks like a pretty decent layout for a 6-across dive machine. It might not break the mould for the ride type, but it does look like a more substantial ride than either Baron or Krake, and I was concerned that something directly comparable to those was on the cards.

They're certainly going all in for this thing, if they're removing Kanonen and Sagoslottet. I don't care much for the rocket but I do think it's a bit of a shame when classic dark rides like that get booted.

I'm not a crazy preservationist, but rides like that are an important part of the product, irrespective of their age - those Swartzkopf rides were built to last, after all.

Liseberg has become quite coaster/thrill focussed in their additions recently, they're bucking the trend.

I shed no tears for either removed ride. While on principal we all like a good dark ride, that smeg-awfull suspended thing will not be missed.

Lets be honest, Liseberg, more than any other park, seems to have a very brutal aproach towards ditching old rides in favour of new ones. Give it ten years and I wouldn't be surprised to see Balder scrapped in favour of the "next big thing"...

It's sort of a shame in that we'll be losing a 50 year old Schwarzkopf transport system but the ride that it featured in was abysmal - definitely the weak link of the park. This move is certainly a net positive.

This will leave Liseberg without a transit dark ride. It's an area that the park has long been lacking when compared to the other European top players so I hope they have something in the works. A top class dark ride would really round out the park. Gasten is great but as an up-charge walkthrough attraction, its widespread appeal is limited. Plus I doubt most visitors even know it's there.

By next year, that whole section of the park will be completely unrecognisable. I would never have imagined last time I was there that everything from Spinrock to Sagoslottet would be gone in a few years.

Liseberg are far more brutal. When Phantasialand remove a ride, it usually makes perfect sense. It's an aging ride that looks dated alongside the park's newest offerings. When Liseberg remove a ride, it's a case of "What!? Didn't they just build that? But there was nothing wrong with it!"

Yeah that's fair. I'm not sure how quick they would have been to remove Bergbanan in 2017 though?

You can't really blame Liseberg for removing their attractions considering the size of the park. Unless they can get some new space by buying old buildings like they did with Valkyria or somehow build something above another like they did with Helix (over Lisebergbanananananana), they're pretty much stuck for choice. Phantasialand is not exactly a massive park, but they pretty much remove their rides because they reached a point where they've become outdated. It's kinda sad in a sense though, especially if you're Swedish and grew up with the ride.

As for Valkyria itself, I do see why people are not overly excited by it as it does look similar to a lot of the more recent dive machines. Even though I'm kinda in the same boat and not overly fanatical about, I'm still looking forward to it and I think it'll be a great coaster. Plus it gives me a solid excuse to go back

True, there was nothing wrong with Kanonen, even if it wasn't a great coaster.

Kanonen is not a bad coaster, but after Helix was built, it felt really pointless...I mean everything it did well, Helix did better. Providing whatever park gets it though, it'd be a decent addition depending on what they already have.

Loving the look of the new dive coaster and looks to make for another great addition to the park too.

Kanonen's time was numbered anyway given they have a larger and greater launch coaster and Liseberg isn't a massive park (though not tiny either) and has limited room for expansion.

Whilst the Fairy Tale dark ride was nothing special, it still feels a shame the ride will be demolished, especially given it's age and the fact it leaves the park without any major indoor/dark ride now, with the exception of Hotel Gasten.

It will be interesting to see what future developments appear at Liseberg in the coming years and given that we've lost 3 rides this year, who's to say which attractions will be evicted/demolished next?

I think a Dive Machine is a very good addition for Liseberg. As Craig has pointed out not everyone has the luxury of riding one on a regular basis like we do and they are still very intimidating for first time riders. The layout looks good on this one and the views from the top are going to be awesome!

Have we seen B&M 'go back' to traditional restraints after introducing vests on that model? I was shocked to see them on Hulk but they haven't put them on a sit-down/floorless yet, i don't think
