WDW Magic Kingdom: General Discussion

For such a world famous and popular attraction, it amuses me that this thread is only 3 pages long xD. Not enough thrill rides? :)

Four pages now! :p

A bit more Magic Kingdom news. As you may have seen the Electrical Parade will be retiring from Walt Disney World on 9th October and heading over for a stint in California during 2017. It is unknown what will happen with this famous parade afterwards. What about the replacement nightime pardade for Magic Kingdom though? It was thought that Pain the Night may be brought over however current rumours suggest further Disney budget cuts will ensure that there is NO nightime parade at Magic Kingdom in 2017. Hopefully that will not be the case.

:)

A bit more Magic Kingdom news. Disney have confirmed that Stitch's Great Escape will move to seasonal operation only from October 2nd. For now the only confirmed openings on the attraction are November 19th - 26th and December 17th - January 2nd.

This could well be the beginning of the end for the attraction, it is rumoured that it will be re-themed to Wreck-it Ralph in the near future with a ride system similar to that of Minion Mayhem at Universal.

:)

Lego is expensive because it is high quality.
... However, once you slap an IP on it the price gets daft. They recently re-issued the Death Star set. Identical to the old one that was still on the shelves the day before, with some slightly updated minifigs, and now it has the Disney logo on the box. Oh, and now it costs a full £100 more than it did the day before. Because of that mouse.

You may have seen earlier this year that I posted about the new MagicBands that Disney are creating which incorporate a removable puck (which contains the RFID element of the band). Well Disney revealed these news bands at the Destination D event over the weekend.

Known as MagicBand 2, they are larger than the current bands and the removable pucks can be utilised with other merchandise (Disney are the best in the business at getting money out of guests).

MagicBand 2 is set to debut across Walt Disney World soon.

Is there anyone here who knows space mountain well, it's done some strange stuff today and I want to know why.
Well not that I will have a clue personally, but I suspect more detail may be needed. What kind of "strange stuff" did it do? Run backwards? Accidently play the music from it's a Small World? Grow legs, rip itself free from it's foundations and start stomping on the People Mover like Godzilla?
;)

First of all we stopped at the top of the lift, I know that the first MCBR is about 5 seconds after the lift and it takes more than 5 seconds to go up the lift but it could of been something to do with the next block being occupied, on my second go we stopped at the bottom, I could see a train at the top (the lift can take to trains at once). We then went up at idle speed and stopped again at the top, both rides were on the right hand track.

Well stopping on blocks is, of course, a good thing. ;) My first thought would be faff caused by loading a disabled rider, but doesn't SM have a separate platform for that? Most likely faff of some kind. Maybe a rider puked and they had to quickly take a train out of service, causing a momentary pause round the whole track?

SM doesn't have a different platform for disabled guests, I think if it stacks it needs to be evacuated and reset, what I can't understand is we went up a idle speed and yet still stopped.

Good news, the Wishes nighttime spectacular is finally coming to an end on May 11th and will be replaced by Happily Ever After on May 12th. Disney Parks Blog have more information.

I felt that Wishes was poor and dated when I saw it in 2015 so pleased to see that it is on its way out.

:)

I find it interesting that half the comments on that video are berating Disney for getting rid of Wishes, but of the people I've asked none of them were that impressed by it.

People being too nostalgic I assume?

Has anyone got a copy of the Wishes soundtrack? Can't find one for the life of me.

I've never liked Wishes either but for a lot of people the "first star I see tonight" music just hits all the right buttons. Personally I prefer IllumiNations at Epcot, if that ever gets ripped out completely I would be upset.

Strong rumours have surfaced that Disney are looking to add a Tron Lightcycle Power Run clone (from Shanghai) to Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom. This would either replace or go behind the existing Tomorrowland Speedway and be likely to open around 2020/2021.

Yes please!

EDIT:

Screamscape are today reporting this about the Tron project:
Screamscape said:
Let the budget cutting begin... because while the Tron coaster project hasn't even been confirmed for Walt Disney World yet, the latest rumors suggest that the WDW bean counters have already got ahold of it and figured the quickest way to cut the budget on the project was to remove the huge light-up canopy/roof structure that covers the entrance and outdoor portion of the ride.

I really hope that is not true but it would not surprise me. The sooner Bob Chapek moves on the better!

:)
