WDW Magic Kingdom: General Discussion

Looking at the updated forecast the eye of the storm appears to be passing only a few miles from Busch gardens as a CAT 4.

They issued a statement in which it was stated they're closing for a few days whilst it passes.

Pretty sure the rides can hold out, just hope the animals will be sheltered from the elements, they did actually say that is their priority ATM which is great.

Honestly, what kind of moron thought it was a good idea to build so many theme parks in the hurricane capital of the world?

*Awaits the wrath of Walt's fanboys*

There is very little of America that isn't at risk of extreme weather or natural disaster.

The bit I love is when they build houses out of wood in an area known as "Tornado Alley". Have they never heard the story of the Three Little Pigs‽ :p

Being serious though, I would assume any rides build in Florida have to be able to stand up to some serious wind. Anything currently under construction might be at risk though.

Everything is hurricane proof, it's telling that both Disney and universal expect to reopen on Monday/ Tuesday.

Disney have staff members who volunteer to be part of the hurricane ride out teams. Once they have been activated their job is to put everything away that can be moved and tie trees/signs down.

The castle is designed to deal with a cat 3 hurricane. Forecasts predict Irma will downgrade to a cat 3 when it hits land

I'm guessing any staff left on site take shelter in the "utilidoors"? Given when they were built, it wouldn't surprise me if those things could withstand a good few megatons!

I believe that they keep a team, all of who are volunteers, in the Contemporary Resort which is designed to withstand a category 5 hurricane.

Got to say from what I have seen across social media I am very impressed with Disney have handled the whole thing. Hotel staff have been exceptional and there have been plenty of characters out and about to keep guest's spirits high. I've seen numerous photos of Pluto and Goofy having encounters with real dogs, who have been allowed in to the hotels, which always warms the heart.

:)

I heard that in Miami they are rounding up the homeless and taking them to shelters... Any that refuse are being sent to mental asylums....

I highly recommend you Google - ExtraTERRORestrial: Alien Encounter

The predecessor to Stitch, it was one of the scariest attraction imaginable. I rode Stitch last year mainly to see how the theatre set-up used to work. The Stitch attraction was bad (advanced animatronic Stitch aside) but it was cool to see the theatre!

I think there is a Defunctland video on it. If there is, I'll watch it.

Disney have received a permit to commence early site preparations for Tron, so we can probably expect some site clearling soon.

Meanwhile, Disney have begun a trial at Be Our Guest of serving lunch on paper plates instead of ceramic plates. If this trial is successful it will be rolled out to all quick serve restaurants that currently use ceramic plates and silverware.

Magical, I'm sure you would agree! Lunch in Be Our Guest is classed as a quick serve option, the dinner sittings should continue to use real plates etc.

:)

That is sad, Ruins the beautiful atmosphere of Be Our Guest... I'm sure the Beast would be outraged to see all his fine china thrown out for Polystyrene / Paper...
