Blackpool Pleasure Beach: Icon - 2018 Mack Double Launch Coaster

Hey that's beer and donut money right there haha

They owe you a beer and a donut after putting in that effort for them... Now that's friendship!

To try and steer this back on conversation, I very much look forward to the media event on Wednesday, especially as it seems to be fairly civil, unlike Thorpes tactic of let them get wasted and rave about how good the event was ;)

Here's some more reviews from yesterday;

I don't understand the fuss over boarding passes, Pleasure Beach charged people to ride the Big One and Valhalla early when they opened, Merlin charge season pass holders to visit certain attractions in the summer and pass holders to visit Halloween events, unless they upgrade and pay more. Business is business, they want our money and will extract it out of us one way or another if we all want something enough.

My boarding pass for Saturday got me a seat on the first public Icon train, on the front row, for me that was worth the money in memories alone. I may not be liked for it, but that's not my problem really.

Dont see any problems with the boarding cards...they are charging fifteen quid in tickets for ride entry, add the six quid park entrance money, and you are paying four quid to jump the queue...bargain.
Still recovering from the pmbo ert though.
Great day though Scott....for as long as I lasted!

Considering we have a country smaller than most US states.

The UK would be the 12th largest state, should we become the 51st state pin the next few years. A little over half the size of California, but larger than Florida.
Overall, the USA has around 20x the size, but only 5x the population.

I had two goes, first was subsidised by PBE (so cost me £7.50) and second go the following day paid full price. If it had been rubbish I'd have not bothered paying for a second go, and if it had looked like it'd be rubbish probably wouldn't have paid for the first one either.

As somebody who HATES queueing I don't mind paying £32.50 to have two goes with no queue, before it opens, on a weekend. Realistically when is it going to not have a huge queue on a weekend from now on? (I also plan on taking a day off in a couple of weeks in the hope there's only a short queue where it's going to get a hammering)

It's my "home park" and I've spent the last few years watching it go up, both in the PBE updates and whilst driving past it twice a day to get to/from work, so I've been waiting for years for this to happen.

Thought being running PBE got you on the first train, the boarding pass was a for sometime during the day.

A full review will be happening once I've ridden Icon more times, but for now I'll just summarise in brief. A very fun coaster with lots of unique elements, the changes in direction are frantic at times and there is lots of airtime to be had. I found that both halves complimented each other perfectly, with one of the highlights being diving through the mist-filled tunnel (you literally can't see ANYTHING) and into the second launch. The ride ran efficiently on two trains both mornings, and I believe they will be running all three at peak times.

The atmosphere in the ride station is superb with the audio blasting out, and whilst landscaping/audio installation was still taking place (as the rides doesn't officially open until Friday, this is fine), here are some photos of the decoration around the Icon area. Pleasure Beach have done a great job at styling the ride well with a fantastic entrance feature, small water feature in the rock garden, memorial posts (to those involved in the project) dotted around the layout, and the first section of the queue-line is lovely.

On a random note, I can't wait for Amanda Thompson's first ride on Icon on Wednesday. I'm quite surprised she hasn't already ridden it, but I can sense it will go something like this if past rides on similar coasters are anything to go by (insert necessary expletives where you feel the need to):
*Amanda is smiling as train leaves station*
*Ride launches*
Amanda: BLOOMIN' HELL!
*Train ascends airtime hill and drops into inclined loop*
Amanda: YOU SAID IT WAS NICE! IT'S BLOOMIN' HORRIBLE!

Loving all this airtime talk. I’d guess it’s more floater than ejector?

Hopefully won’t have to hop on a plane to get my fix now :D

A mix of both throughout the ride, depending on where you sit in the train.

EDIT: My original post was deleted, apparently I need context.

Here is a link to a Facebook video about Icon, which ya'll would have known by following the link in the first place but whatever :p

All jokes, just to be clear :)

The park have been in a shaky financial situation for years. Why should we give them grief for offering a limited-time product at a price people are willing to pay?
