Wouldn't it be a waste of time showing football games at Towers? The park is closed when a lot of them are being played
They would presumably close rides and keep a good place open for football fans.

Well at work 15 of us have joined the sun dream team so over half the company is in it.
We got a lot of youth at work and none of them talk about theme parks. If I do bring it up they always say we value our limbs thank you so really the Smiler accident and other theme park deaths have really put the normal General public off theme parks.

I get that a lot. I've taken two of my friend's to Towers this season. The first one won't even look the Smiler and just goes on about losing his legs whenever i mention it.

The other one was the same, until i managed to get her on it, now she loves it.

There will always be people that will think that going on rides are dangerous. I remember around 30 years ago, I had people saying to me don't go on rides because they are dangerous. 30 years later, I've yet to be involved in my first ride accident.

You will never change people perceptions. If someone is not into rides, they will look for any excuse to reinforce the fact that they don't go on rides. The Smiler accident and any other reported accident or even just a ride breakdown/evacuation will simply reinforce the reasons for people who are not into riding rides not to go on them.

Lets just look at the real facts

1. You are more likely to have a serious accident whilst travelling to a theme park than actually at one. How many of these people who claim that rides are dangerous will still get into a car?

2. There are people that won't go into the sea due to the fear that they may attacked by a shark. You are more likely get electrocuted by your toaster than being attacked by a shark. How many of these people has used a toaster this morning?

3. The most dangerous place to be and where the most accidents/deaths happen than anywhere else is being at home. But yet people feel more safe at home than doing any of the above.

The moral here, get out and enjoy life, you only have the one life, don't waist it or your time by sitting at home doing nothing. Remember, it is safer to go out and do things than sit at what you feel is the safety of your own home and vegetate.

I love it when the world cup is on the "errrmagod, I don't care about football" brigade speak out. Its on 1 channel at a time. Most likely, at this time of year will only have repeats showing or a bond film. Guess some love the one show too much!!

Should it be shown at towers. Yes, as long as it doesn't disrupt the errrmagod brigade going about there lives. I watch football, wouldn't pay to enter the towers and watch Iran vs Morocco. But I do know some sad acts who will. No harm in them doing it! As long as it doesn't cost them and they have the building slash equipment to do it. Which they haven't so let's move on.

It's on two channels mostly, and it's not the tv coverage that annoys me, it's the constant fact of having its existence being rammed down my throat wherever I go that I find irritating.

Thanks for the condescending addition to the debate but just to clarify.

1) I have no issue with football on TV, if people want to waste their time watching it that doesn’t impact me and I don’t watch a whole lot of non-streamed TV. I also have no issue with football being shown in pubs other than the aforementioned pressure this always seems to put on hospitals when the hooligans who can’t get into the stadiums anymore push into the city centres.

2) The reason I don’t think football should be broadcast in a theme park is because the atmosphere it creates is invasive. You can’t escape the chanting and yelling that goes with it and theme parks should be there to escape from stuff like that. You might think the football atmosphere is fun but for a lot of folk it’s either intimidating or annoying. There are more than enough locations to enjoy the game than invading every public space in the country.

Your views on the beautiful game seem very outdated, Dave. I'm a season ticket holder at Chelsea and match days now are more of a fun, family day out.

Of course there will be drunk idiots but this is a very small percentage which is blown out of proportion by the media. When millions of people follow something there will naturally be a few tits.

Again years working in A&E suggest otherwise. Security is very good in the stadiums so the thugs take their aggression out in the bars after the match. We always saw a massive upswing in alcohol related violence in match days.

I have no love of the game but as I have said I don’t think the machismo atmosphere of football has a place in theme parks. I am not against football being enjoyed in stadiums, pubs, city squares and homes but it doesn’t need to be everywhere.

England will probably only play 4 or 5 matches out of the many over the month, I doubt Serbia vs Switzerland would get rowdy.

In fact, even for England games, no one is going to go to Towers for the football, it would just be an extra thing; if you want to watch it and get drunk and with an atmosphere, you'll go the pub. Can't see the barmy army paying 50 quid a head to watch football in a theme park paying 4.50 a pint and throwing chairs around.

If anything showing the football, especially the England games, would reduce queues for people who aren't interested. It'd pay for itself through the bars.

Take it from someone who works in Stratford, and finishes shortly after the final whistle on matchdays: Trying to negotiate your way through thousands of [always angrgy, regardless of the score] West Ham fans, and the westfield shoppers, is definately intimidating!

Oh, and regarding the football only being on one or two channels, it's not though, is it? Loads of other networks pump out football themed dreck for over a month. This year, the History Channel has rebranded itself "The History of Football Channel". It's been showing nothing but old games and footballer biographies for several weeks now.

Dave has hit the nail on the head. We know you guys are having fun, and the vast majority of you mean no harm. But those of us who dislike football regard the fans of the game in much the same way that non-theme park enthusiasts regard the swarms of stag parties in Blackpool! Loud, drunk, annoying, agressive, unpredictable, could turn violent at any moment...

No other sports fans intimidate the public like this. My tube commute passes Wembley. On football days it can be downright terrifying as hordes of thugs cram around you and start litteraly trying to headbutt the train windows to vent their agression. I've seen it happen. Rugby fans? Excited, maybe, but perfectly civilised at the same time.

Show the game.....don't show the game, have no fear, Tower's can't do anything as daft as BPB did last time the world cup was on.

They advertised that matches would be shown at FY4 then closed the park at half time and threw everyone out. Why not maximise income and keep north park open....! So all that happened was people left early and went to the Duton to watch the match.

Notice a trend, I go to football alot, see trouble. But I also see trouble at horse racing, rugby all other sporting events. Drunks are drunks even if at sport or not. Always football that gets the press the others won't.

Sport at theme parks is a bad idea.

My point is, sport is best in big crowds. Football is, but I also get that large football crowds are intemidating to none football people. Which is why I never want to see football at the towers. Chavs in queues are bad enough as it is. Horse playing around. I won't mind, but where did they get the horses from!!! (thank you jungle river cruise for that joke)
