WDW Hollywood Studios: General Discussion

Hollywood and Vine We booked to go in there in 2008 and couldn’t understand why it was a table service restaurant as it was a buffet meal so help yourself. It hated paying some person 20% tip as all they did was bring us drinks.
For the best food nothing beats Epcot. Magic Kingdom is also a hit and miss for food.

We are off to Disney soon, according to Disney Food Blog all the table service options at Holywood are pretty poor except for Brown Derby (which we arnt going to eat at due to cost of signitue) better off getting a quick service from andys lunchbox tbh.

Magic kingdom, animal kingdom and epcot all have some great table service and quick service places its a shame Holywood studios is such a stinker for food and attractions. It's definitely the park im least excited about going to!

They have a nice bar now if you fancy a pint, it also does some pleasant snack meals.

It’s was 2008 when I last had the DDP so standards have dropped even more. On our visit in 2011 and 2016 we had the QSDP and on our last visit we all only enjoyed the QS meals in Epcot and the Animal Kingdom.

Sci-Fi Dine In is not too bad. The food isn’t amazing but it’s so dark in there you can’t really see what you’re eating anyway. Equally Mama Melrose’s can be half decent if you order right; it too has a reasonably cosy atmosphere. Thirdly, the food in 50s Prime Time was good last we went a few years ago, the atmosphere on the other hand is an acquired taste.

Hollywood and Vine is probably your worst choice, so I wouldn’t judge the park by those standards.

Disney have just announced that a new table service restaurant will be opening in Toy Story Land sometime soon.

WDW Info said:
Using three cardboard boxes cut and taped together, Andy has created a new rodeo arena using some of his favorite toys, games, and play sets. And while some pieces are definitely western-themed, what makes this rodeo special is the broad assortment of toys that have been brought together to create a fun, colorful mashup-atmosphere that only a child could create.

Once inside, you’ll be surrounded by all of the rodeo festivities in-action as well as western town and train station play sets. And you just might spot some of your favorite Disney•Pixar characters scattered throughout the restaurant in the form of toys and game pieces including a toy version of Jessie riding on the back of a Trixie pull-toy and unique toy versions of Bo Peep and her sheep, all who appear to be performing in the rodeo together.

This immersive restaurant will surround guests with a kaleidoscope of toys, games, and playsets, providing yet another unique, fun, family-friendly dining experience that could only be had in Toy Story Land.

Unfortunately, this development doesn't really sound like an antidote to DHS' dining problem - it's pretty clear that it's just a quick fix to help soak up some of the Galaxy's Edge queues.

I don't doubt that the dining options within SW:GE will be fantastic, but Disney will push the pricing as far as they possibly can. The park will still be without decent, affordable food options, even after SW:GE is open.

I like it, generally. It looks clean and fresh, but it does lack focus. It feels like characters have been chucked in at every opportunity, without really much consideration. It would have been better had they just used Mickey, and possibly had the other “O”s as film reels. They could even have had the rest of the letters spelled out using unravelled film. Would certainly have been more thematically appropriate, and probably more visually interesting.

But it is what it is and I do think it’s an improvement on the old.

I like it, it looks very contemporary.

There is still a strong studio element though, given that the IP's are from huge hit movies. The studio connection may have changed focus in recent years but it is still strongly there. This logo reflects that change in focus. Having film reels for the letter O's would not work, this is not 1996 or 2005 anymore. The studios side of the Disney corporation now has some of the strongest and most recognisable IP's on the this planet. Having these strong IP's in the logo reflects how the studios element of Disney has changed massively in recent times. These IP's are the anchor of what the studio brand is all about these days.

Film reels are also a bit cliche in this day and age now to be fair, plus the world is moving away from using film reels. It is all going digital, so making them not just cliche but also irrelevant.

Very good logo in my opinion.

It reminds me of the approach they took with World of Disney.
Stripped down and minimalist, nothing offensive or distinctive about it.

Not sure I'd buy a T-shirt with the new logo on it.

I think that this HAS to be a success for Disney. Galaxy’s Edge numbers have been below expectations and I think they need it to deliver, to both:

- bump the numbers at the Studios and across WDW, and

- demonstrate they can still deliver groundbreaking rides, as Universal start to nip at their heels more and more

I just think they have priced themselves out of the market for American holidaymakers. Like Park tickets cost between $110 and $159 each and they do on average 5 to 7 days only. Just to park there car at your resort (on-site) or at the parks (off-site) it’s $25 a day so between $125 and $175

The tickets are only $120ish for single days. Once you get over 4/5 days then the price goes up by very little to add more days (as little as $10 per extra day) so a 10 day ticket works out at $47 per day (about £35).
A UK Disney 14 day ticket works out at £28 per day. Although realistically most UK visitors probably only spend 10 days in the Disney parks at most so that £39 per day.

Yes Disney parks are expensive, but for the price you get a long day in the park (9am to 6pm minimum, often midnight at Magic Kingdom) and a firework or entertainment show every single night plus at Magic Kingdom at least one parade. Compare that to UK parks for the actual entertainment offerings that aren't coasters.

Disney price their tickets to encourage people to book multi-day trips and discourage people from spending time at Universal, Legoland and SeaWorld. That's why the tickets at all Orlando parks get significantly cheaper the more days you spend at one resort. If someone looked at going to all three major chains it seems expensive, but to skip Seaworld and just add two more Disney days is much cheaper.

For me its Universal that "feels" expensive as we usually only need two days there so the ticket price isn't spread far, but at Disney the ticket cost is spread over 6-8 days. SeaWorld is cheaper to start with.

Spoilers ahead as this is virtually the full walkthrough/POV for RotR:

I'm by no means a fan nor care for Star Wars, but holy sh*tballs that looks astounding.
