Fantasy Island

Thought so. I've never been to Fantasy Island (both the UK and the US one which I'll probably never get to go to now), but I was hoping to visit it next year to try out Odyssey, Turbulence and Millennium which is apparently a smooth Vekoma!
Yeah, I've been once. Millennium is great, didn't try Oddeysey though. The indoor pyramid section is magical, One of the best themed indoor theme park areas in Europe. And they've added a high ropes course this year! Definitely want to get back sometime. :)

I'm not surprised you didn't get on Odyssey

Wasn’t really sure where to post this, but seems relevant in here. It’s been announced today that the Mellors Group (Who own fantasy island) have now purchased the Skegness pier, which doesn’t really contain any rides but does have an arcade, bowling, laser quest, escape rooms and a bar.

Thats great news, regardless how some people think of the Mellors Group they do ensure they look after their purchases. Its about time the Pier had some money spent on it, hopefully it will get the paint needed to make it look decent again

Good luck to them, they seem to 'get it' and have delivered in spades as far as I am concerned. Fantasy is night and day vs. when they took over.

Before Mellors I'd always message Fantasy and ask if Odyssey was open to justify the 6 hour round trip. The first time I messaged after Mellors takeover they responded instantly and said "Of course it is, things are different now" - no arguments from me on that.

I've wanted to go to Fantasy Island for ages, but the thought of going to Skeggy (which is about 2 and a half hours each way for me) and seeing Odyssey closed has put me off it. So this is actually really good to know!

I first visited in 2018, and even the changes and atmosphere when I went back in 2020 seemed to have made the park a nicer place to visit overall. Happily on the second visit the Odyssey was even open as well!

Fantasy Island is a much nicer place to visit now.

Sadly the rides range between average and poor in terms of quality.

I read they are hoping to extend the length of the pier in the future, which as a kid growing up always questioning why it was never rebuilt makes me extremely optimistic

Imagine it would be a lot of money to extend, it’s also a narrow pier so yoy,l hand to make it wider at the end if you want to put anything decent on it really.

To be fair there’s quite a bit of land next to it, towards the pleasure beach, but no idea if that’s their land or someone else’s. I think there’s land on the other side too which is just a car park.

I think they'd be better to try and buy the PB than extend the pier. Then again, Clacton did widen their pier (and the it partially collapsed) recently. The pier itself needs extensive work, so much of it felt worn out on my last visit in 2019.

Mellors have really improved the running of FI, I went days after administration beforehand and it was dreadful but later visits showed marked improvements.
