WDW Epcot: General Discussion

I think it is basically ready to open, but due to the attendance cap due to covid they don't want the rush of guests coming for a new ride. October allows the the covid situation to (hopefully) improve and also allows it to be part of the 50th anniversary marketing. But yes there may be some unannounced openings in the summer.

Despite being a big Disney fan and also a fan of the movie.....I wasn't blown away by Ratatouille at DLP like so many people are. I found the video quality to be rather poor and the ride just doesn't flow that nicely in my opinion.

I hope they have tweaked it a bit for this newer version.

I'm in complete agreement with you. I felt for the immersive area it sits within, it was not as good as I was expecting. I'm not saying it wasn't enjoyable but just not blown away.

To be honest it's a good fit for Epcot and the French Pavillion and the overall strategy from Chapek and the board to introduce more Disney to the park without totally destroying what Epcot's true purpose was. However, the size of those Harmonious night time parade barges are just an eye sore even when their likely to turn into daytime fountains.

Not a huge fan of Marvel films tbh but I did enjoy the GOTG films. I can see this coaster being something special too given the scale and budget.

Oh to live in Florida.....that would be nice.

The GotG ride at California Adventure is a lot of fun. Despite using the same ride system it provides the complete opposite experiance to Tower of Terror in that it is just silly stupid crazy fun rather than dark scariness.

Can’t wait to ride this in august. I loved the GOTG ride in California such a fun ride and surprise of the trip as rate tower of terror, although glad they built a separate ride in Orlando and didn’t convert the original Tower of Terror.

It’s a family thrill coaster but as usual with Disney it’s all about the whole experience. Thrill level is said to sit between Bug thunder and Everest.

It’s mind boggling that it’s taken half a decade for this ride to open. A sad indictment of how Disney currently run their parks.

I think it would have been done a year or so earlier if the pandemic hadn't happened, they waited out to see how crowd levels were. No point announcing a new attraction when capacity has to be restricted.

Disney are notorious for dragging out new attractions even before the pandemic. I have no idea why it takes them so long personally as you seem equally detailed rides at Universal these days that spring up in almost half the amount of time.

The other major difference with Disney is how early they announce things, Avatar for example was announced years before any demolition evan began. Whereas Universal don't say anything until a few months before opening of a new attraction.

I not been since 2016 but in the space of 6 years they added
2017 Avatar area
2018 Toy story land
2019 Star Wars area
2020 Mickey&Minnie runaway railway
2021 Ratatouille
2022 GOTG coaster
2023 Tron

But in the 10 years prior to that not much was done.
Toy Story Mania at Hollywood Studios.
There was the new fantasyland in 2012 (BatB restaurant, Little Mermaid ride, moved Dumbo, Seven Dwarves coaster).
retheme of Test Track in 2012.
Frozen retheme of Maelstrom in 2016.

The major work to add Star Wars, Avatar, Toy Story Land was all a reaction to Harry Potter at Universal. Prior to that Disney was coasting.

Good to see them keeping up with Paulton’s then in that same period. Just joking of course, it is good to see Disney introducing new rides but they can have an annoying tendency in some of their parks to go for long periods without introducing new reasons to visit.

They’ve allowed their parks to stagnate to such an extent that one large new attraction per year is just not enough. Future World for example has been broken for more than a decade and the last addition of note was a Test Track retheme.

Given the size, scope and pricing of the resort, an average of one new attraction every four years is just not enough. Most of those new additions have in fact gone to Hollywood Studios, but that only followed massive swathes of the park being shuttered for years.

Magic Kingdom has had no significant attraction added for a decade - it’s the world’s most well attended theme park and they’ve added nothing.

Once Epcot has had its semi-refurb job their focus must switch to the right hand side of the park at Animal Kingdom.

They need a couple of good ride attractions in that area, even possibly a water coaster of sort as that park screams heat! I don't know what IP they would look to utilise? I know there has been talk of both Indy and Zootopia but I would prefer they look at some sort of Fantasy Spring offering like in Japan.

In any event the next time we return to Florida will be for Epic Universe and have no ambition to step foot back into an Orlando Disney park and I'm one of their biggest fanboys!
