Blackpool Central Redevelopment

No mention of a coaster anywhere previously...I imagine it will be on a screen!
Market, shops and food, hotels, kiddie rides and 4 D screen is all I have heard from the start.

It would appear that the Chariots of the Gods IP is being dropped, as market research showed that it “didn’t appeal to younger audiences”: https://blooloop.com/theme-park/news/blackpool-central-chariots-of-the-gods/

Interesting… I wonder if they’re planning a replacement IP, or whether the park’s attractions will now just be originally themed?

Tik Tok attractions here we come. Hahaha

I did think it was a bit of a strange theme though. With Coral Island just opposite a Pirate theme would be so much better. And as it's a sea side town too even more so.

Probably for the best the theme sounded pretty poor, especially for something they were going to wrap around the whole thing.

Is it bad that I’d never actually heard of Chariots of the Gods prior to this project being announced?

For those who don’t know about it, here’s a basic summary of the Chariots of the Gods book on Wikipedia: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chariots_of_the_Gods?

I’ll admit it seems like a bizarre choice to base theme park attractions around; from what I can tell, it’s essentially a conspiracy theory book from the 1960s.

Actually saw a bloke with a theodolite scratching his arse at the site yesterday.
It still smells of wee.
No action.

Chariots of the Gods always seemed like a placeholder to me. Better to sell it on a theme nobody cares about than do a 'Paramount Resort London'.

Notable that the sitemap has changed a little - where before the site came over Bonny Street and on to the promenade where the Golden Mile arcade currently stands, newer renders show that arcade still standing.

The frontage site is a bone of contention...think bits might be listed, and there are also lease issues over sealife.

Nothing is listed on the east side of the promenade between the Tower and the Pleasure Beach (Casino).

Certainly nothing that backs on to Bonny Street.

More likely the 14 years left on the lease of the building and the costs associated with terminating that early were an issue, I'd have thought.

Must have misread something in the Gazette early on.
Surprised theynare leaving the pub on the corner standing if it isn't listed.

They’ve ditched the plans for a promenade frontage due to the costs involved in a CPO. As a CPO valuation is not just based on property value, but also income, the developers decided it was uneconomical to pursue encompassing the promenade units within the current masterplan.

The unit in question is owned by Blackpool Council, it was acquired in the same transaction as the Tower and Waxworks. One presumes a CPO would not be neccessary?

Go ahead for £300m Blackpool Central leisure plan - despite Blackpool Pleasure Beach objection

Work will begin early next year on the £300m Blackpool Central leisure development after councillors unanimously backed plans to transform the site of the former Central Station.
