The intamin accelerators actually are able to run at very low temperatures vs traditional coasters for some reason.

This looks rather good! I assume they’ll be taking their turns though at set points throughout the day? Drum and bass, house music and the chavtastic Spinjam jingles could all get a bit too much! F6AC7DE3-66D3-4C10-B412-9F1D8AC2AC81.jpeg

It’ll be interesting to see which genre they choose for Thirteen. Something London Grammar like springs to mind! Assuming Galactica- New Age/Electronic, Nemesis: Metal, Rita: American Rock, Wickerman: Symphonic folk perhaps ?

You won’t find a finer remix than the Oblivion / Sandstorm remix at last year’s fireworks. A totally mind blowing spectacle!
You are not wrong. I'm tempted, if I get chance to make a remix of the Oblivion theme myself (I'm a music technology student).

There have been some price increases on Alton Towers entry tickets today.

The cheapest online ticket (for off peak Tues/Weds) has increased to £36 (from £34).

Off peak Mon/Thurs/Fri now start from £38 (was £36).

Weekends and school holidays now start from £42.

The gate price has also gone up to £65 (from £62) meaning most 241 vouchers will work out at £32.50pp.

And with many of the rides closed this morning. Noting that 13 is still closed, hoping it will be open this weekend. Maybe if gate price reduced for each ride closed that would be fairer!

I believe Th13teen cannot operate below around 7 degrees these days, so looking at the weather for this weekend you are looking at it being a least 12pm/1pm before it can open each day - just to set your expectations.

Anyone who pays the £65 gate price is a fool. It has to be inflated so that the 241 price is acceptable.

I really still think they need to scrap that mentality as it does try and make people think the product is worth £65. The online price is fair I think, £42 sounds a lot but if its a full 8 hour day then probably worth it although depends if rides actually manage to operate. Comparable price to BPB, Paulton and most European parks.
But making people think it should be £65 just because you want them to pay £32.50 is bonkers. Should just do a voucher for £5 off the online price so its £31/33/37 depending on dates. I know £5 doesn't seem like as big a saving so that is why they do it "2for1" sounds like a great deal, when realistically the most you are saving is £9.50 and on some dates its just £2.50 saved.

If only that was an April Fool 😛😔

The VAT rate for hospitality has increased from 12.5% back to the standard 20% today and the minimum wage rate has also risen. These will be feeding in to the price increases.
Absolutely. But it’s a fine line for them to tread. With the cost of living soaring, you can’t make it so expensive that people can’t afford to come. Going to Alton is a luxury at the end of the day, so putting prices up may actually backfire? Better to sell 1000 tickets at £25 than 500 at £35 after all. We shall see.

I think you make an interesting point, and it is one that is relevant to more than just Alton Towers. Theme parks are not a cheap day out, especially for a family. As costs of living rise people are increasingly going to have choices to make of where exactly they want to spend their disposable income, and on the face of it this could impact theme parks.

Europa-Park keeps getting more and more expensive also. Now yes it is a premium product, but I see lots of comments on German fan pages along similar lines saying that it is becoming less affordable for people to visit.

But there are other factors. Of course people will be less inclined to partake it leisure activities when money is tight, but there's also the prospect of people trading down. Will people cancel expensive foreign trips for a beano to Towers instead? With the logo plastered all over milkshake bottles, chocolate bars, packs of soap and boxes of breakfast cereal promoting (arguably false) discount days out, will people be lured in when faced with rising holiday costs?
