Paultons Park: General Discussion

Per this post on CoasterForce, a memo sent out to staff reveals a few more details of what to expect in the Viking area...

2026
  • New coaster with a 1.2m height restriction
  • 'UK first' second ride
2027
  • New ride replacing the Go Karts
I'm not surprised this is at least a 2 phase project. Exciting few years ahead!

Edit: The following coaster models come to mind...
  • Most likely: New gen Vekoma, likely with a launch akin to Formula or Abyssus
  • Less likely: Intamin Hot Racer - not sure Paultons would want the 1 across seating
  • Least likely: GCI Wooden coaster with inversion - a less tried and tested model
I'm not sure there are other inverting 1.2m options, other than something strange like Mandrill Mayhem? ... or dare I say RMC?!
(The new Family LSM Intamin is only 1.0m 🤔)

With that new Intamin Family Thrill LSM, I believe 1m is the bare minimum they're able to have the height restriction at.

I'd imagine they will recommend higher on a case by case basis in terms of it's intensity.

I'm genuinely curious what these other rides will be - could they mean a water ride, flat ride, dark ride or an additional coaster.

I wouldn't be surprised if Phase 1 is the coaster and a water ride (Launched Flume or Mack Rocking Boat) whilst the Go Karts site is a dark ride where more time is needed to build.

I wonder if this means major rides or if flat rides are counted separately.

I'm still thinking of a big thrill ride that is maybe an amped up, inverted version of Thirteen (maybe called Loki) or even a lighter Valkyrie themed take on the Smiler (it's still seen as a risky faux pas here, but it'll attract a wider audience when they're still dramatically expanding after 15 years, and they already got a solid roster of family coasters).

The RMC Wild Moose Coaster has a completely customisable layout designed to "fit anywhere". This would allow it to intertwine with Cobra and I don't think it would be too difficult to add the rumoured inversion to a custom version.. I wonder if the very tight turn profile rumoured as a result of the footer layout, described by the construction update would suit this profile also? The standard version comes in under the 25m height limit if I'm quoting that correctly. I can't find a height requirement but RMC market it as a ride together family ride sort of a deal so it's possible it's 1.2m. Of course this is only an idea going off the marketing we've seen so far, and the tiny amount of construction we've seen. It could be a slightly cheaper or smaller RMC if that's what they wanted to build too.

I'd be surprised if Paultons went with RMC. They have a good relationship with Mack & Vekoma so I just don't see them taking a risk with a new manufacturer especially one that has no presence in the UK.

I think it's more likely you will see something like a Vekoma Space Warp. If you look on Vekoma website even the standard layout would fit the bill, a launch with a couple of inversions, not massively tall and still 1.2 height it would tick alot of boxes.

Is a company that has been in business for 24 years and been involved in coasters for 14 really "new"?

Paultons will go with whoever offered the best design to their brief at the best price.

Indeed, going for a company that hasn't built anything in the UK yet would potentially push the park to make such a decision for marketing purposes.

Yes, when you haven't worked with them previously.

@Quantum mentioned the existing relationship with two previous / usual suppliers. RMC, in this case, would be a new supplier.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I saw either here or on CoasterForce a while ago that at the Superfans day last year, the park have allegedly said that the coaster is from a manufacturer that fans haven't guessed yet, ruling out Vekoma and Mack who have worked with the park on major projects before. It could be speculation or rumours though.

I know RMC has been teased a few times although I think it's a bit of fun.

I'd certainly imagine that brand new manufacturers will be involved in some form and I'm imagining that at some point, we'll see the first Intamin at Paultons Park even if it's a water ride rather than a coaster.

Looking at the current foundations that are going in near Cobra, it looks almost as if there's a trough? I don't have the technical mind like some on here to look at something as vague as foundations and have any idea what it is 😂

For speculative purposes I've very poorly drawn the current foundations under Cobra and in the old 'picnic' field if anyone was interested.

It looks like everything is coming along really nicely from our visit this week. GM is having more and more details added to the exterior - can't wait to see the inside next month 🤩

Just for the record, you think that Paulton's Park's next coaster is going to feature 14 inversions?
It's highly unlikely that Paultons' next suspected roller coaster installed by 2026 will have 10+ inversions but it'll plausibly have one to three inversions (an upgrade over the Chaser/Cobra/Pterosaur coasters, but nothing too crazy), Vikings will likely be part of Paultons' overall brand refresh, if it's very successful, and if Peppa Pig is doing less heavy lifting, it'll not be impossible they'll have an even more elaborate thrill ride one day after the late 2020s.

In which case, how would it be "a take on the Smiler", unless you thought the model type would be an Infinity coaster?

I'd imagine this route would be similar to the likes of Efteling, Plopsaland, Toverland, Europa Park and Phantasialand.

It is possible that they may settle with the Vikings coaster as the signature thrill coaster and focus more on family-thrill like with Chessington afterwards although I'd imagine the coaster will be the first thrill coaster rather than the only.

I'm thinking either way this coaster would work exactly like how Mandrill Mayhem and The Wave work for Paultons Park's closest competition.

In which case, how would it be "a take on the Smiler", unless you thought the model type would be an Infinity coaster?
A Gerstlauer Infinity Coaster could work for Paultons.

It would be very different from Smiler and the amount of inversions would be between 1 and I'd guess about 5 at most.

Either way, whatever they build would need to appeal to their existing audience to keep them coming back and making the park relevant for older families.
