Lightwater Valley

I had my first ever visit to LWV this week, and I did have a really good day. Its a nice little park with some alright rides, but you can tell they don't have much money. It's the kind of place I liked and would go back, but certainly not for a few years.

The park was fairly quiet and we didn't really queue long for anything. The Ultimate is strange, very strange. I really liked Raptor Attack, a well themed queue line! We also had a really nice meal at the restaurant at the entrance, certainly better than typical burger and chips, etc.

And for £20 online you can't really complain.

@djtruefitt is it worth the journey for The Ultimate though? That's a question I ask myself repeatedly, it's quite the jaunt for essentially one ride (as I don't get on with most flats).

I suppose its a one of those rides where you don't get an experience like it elsewhere. Its rather strange, and I really liked my first ride in the morning, but later on i didn't enjoy it as it is so rough, however the amount of airtime it has, some sections you spend more time in the air rather than sat on your seat!

Depends where you live really for the drive, but it does have some fairly decent flat rides, and some nice relaxing rides. We spend ages on the swan boats and also the water slides were fun.

Like many other members on here I could go on for hours about The Ultimate. I'd definitely recommend that you go and try it, though really to justify the trip you want a weekend in Yorkshire doing something else on the Saturday, then Lightwater on the Sunday. It's not a full day park and The Ultimate is a Marmite ride, so you can do it early in the day when it's a tiny bit less rough, get everything else done quite quickly and then decide based on whether or not you enjoyed it to set off home nice and early or spend the remainder of the day hammering through the woods. :D A North Yorkshire Moors Railway/Lightwater trip has been suggested for September if you're interested.

Looks like me and the family are going to be heading over to Lightwater Valley soon, what can we expect in terms of rides?

I don't think anything can really prepare you for your first ride on The Ultimate. It's strange.

It's got the sensation of going over a rocky woodland ravine at twice the speed of sound. An incredibly fun but terrifying experience.

Wear knee pads and prepare to be majorly disappointed.

The back has always been closed off when I've been, the front for me was better than the last row they had open.

You will be bruised no matter what you do, so just accept it, embrace it and try to stay conscious.

I preferred the front more than the back, mainly because I could see where I was going and could therefore prepare myself! The back I just had no idea where I was going, therefore got chucked all over the place.

Bad news for flat fans.

WHIRLWIND TO LEAVE LIGHTWATER VALLEY

It seems that Whirlwind will be leaving Lightwater Valley at the end of the season, after our Forum member Khan found an advert for it on a Showmens Facebook page.

The ride pictured is definitely Whirlwind, and we thought the ride would have a longer life at the park. It’s a sad decision on the parks side as the ride is manually operated and is admired for its wild ride with the operators able to give some incredible and disorientating experiences.

The park haven’t said what they are doing for 2015, and if Whirlwind will be replaced.

In 2014, Whirlwind had a lot of work done with some major components replaced at a huge cost, and the ride is now advertised as having lots of expensive work carried out and major parts changed by Mondial. In excellent working order.

The park had a loss of £500,000 last season due to the Angry Birds area, and with no new ride for 2014, it has been a quiet year. We at Valley Mania hope that this is just the first step to Lightwater getting in a major new ride for 2015.

We will post more developments as we hear them in our Forums.

Could it not be a case that this Showmen's website have the same model but have just used a picture of Whirlwind instead of taking their own? I seem to remember something similar happening with another ride that everyone thought was leaving several years ago.

Would that be Hornet's Nest? I'm probably wrong, but it rings a bell...
