We're drifting too far away from Wicker Man and onto other things about Services Day in general and how the resort deals with cancellations etc now. Back to le woodie please and feel free to use other topics for other subjects :)

*gets crowbar*

So does anyone know what weather safety limits there are for this type of wood coaster?

If it's anything like Wodan, the ride can operate at 0 Celsius, however if there is hard ice on the track, it cannot.

Regarding wind, I would imagine the ride can run in higher winds than The Smiler - but I am speculating here.

Anyone else noticed the overwhelmingly negative response from the GP to Wicker Man in the media and Facebook?

Seems people are generally quite nervous about the prospect of a wooden coaster, especially one with fire after the Smiler incident.

I’m awfully curious as to how this is all going play out.

Can’t say I have looked recently but there wasn’t a whole lot of negative comments last I looked.

That said new ride comments on facebook tend to be either folks saying they will never ride something because it’s too tall/ fast/ spin/ extreme etc, orpeople tagging their mates in and saying “sick” a lot

Yeah, I haven't look on Facebook for a while, but when I have seen the comments on Alton's page, they've mostly been very positive. :)

Yeah don’t look on Altons page as thats either fans of the park or they’ll just delete anything negative.

It was the drone footage which has been shared by a number of newspapers and media outlets.

Going by twitter - it seemed initially negative with lots of concern about it actually catching fire.

Recently though it seems overwhelmingly positive.

The newspaper comments are from people reading the same rags which reported how much of a "death trap" the park is. These will tend to be the over 50 population who believe everything they read in the papers and wouldnt go to the park anyway. The response I have seen on social media has mostly been positive. Personally I think it will be a good ride, though I just have my apprehensions about the effects lasting into the year, but will have to see how it pans out.

Don't tar the old as stupid, not all of us are, my dads nearing 80 and he's still happy to go to AT and ride anything that doesn't turn him over (he said he'll do Wickerman which could be interesting as he doesn't like fire for reasons I won't bore you with), I know several people who literally banned their kids from going on the school trip to Thorpe after Smiler, have never relented and are ALL under 40. Stupidity doesn't discriminate on age.

If you're basing the age assumption on Twitter comments, think again, most people over 50 think Twitter is the noise birds make lol.

Likewise GaryH...I'm over fifty, and know a number of others who would take issue with your ageist comment.
I don't believe everything I read in the papers, and I go to Alton, and lots of other parks, on a regular basis. So do my friends.
Lots of grandparents take their grandkids.
As far as I am aware, they do not check your age on your driving license on the way in.
