Thorpe Park: General Discussion

I've heard that too elsewhere, but it won't be higher than Stealth and is going on the unused part of Swarm Island, whether that is true I guess we'll find out soon enough (with a path/bridge being constructed between the sunken garden to the Island, allowing you to walk directly to/from Stealth/Swarm).

One thing that occurred to me about Capex spending is that they said something about the reduction being for future projects, so that would be for projects like SW9 and not for stuff that's already been signed off (Project 2020 and Chessington expansion).

I am slightly surprised, however, after Merlin stated that they want to reduce CAPEX spending between 2018 and 2021, because I can't imagine that a B&M hyper comes cheap. I reckon Merlin might be easing up on budgets a bit, though.
The majority of the capex cull is coming out of midway and although the cut is not insignificant, it's worldwide

Thanks @Rick! So was Project 2020 presumably signed off before Merlin announced the reductions?

If it does indeed turn out to be a B&M there is still nothing to say the budget hasn’t been decreased with these capex changes. They could well have changed the design of the ride, reduced the theming, landscaping etc.

I would bet that a B&M Hyper will be out of the budget for the next large TP project.
Quite possibly - I also wonder if that would be their best shout in terms of ROIC.

Nick Varney has said in no uncertain terms that Saw is one of Merlin's best investments. It's "just a Eurofighter" but highly marketable and packed the place out, cementing the park on the map for their target market.

I think Thorpe could follow the Six Flags model for a while.

I know this sounds like a stupid question, but does ROIC stand for return on investment capital or something similar? If it does, then I reckon that the B&M hyper would definitely be marketable, especially if it were to exceed the Big One in height (213ft, I think the Big One is?)

Also, what do you mean by the Six Flags model?

Yes - that's what ROIC is. A potential problem with a ride of that type at that scale is that it would have to be fairly long, if you're dropping from ~215ft, that's a fair amount of speed you need to do something with (unless B&M went with a radical new approach). Fairly long = expensive and I wonder if it would perhaps be out of budget on those grounds.

Also, what do you mean by the Six Flags model?
Six Flags insane building programme of bigger, better, badder coasters finished (post-bankruptcy) and they focussed on providing a quality, fun, family day out with new flats, dark rides and the odd new coaster and the replacement/refreshment of some ageing rides/coasters.

It won't be a B&M or an Intamin, I don't have proof or anything to back those claims.

But I guarantee it definitely won't be a B&M, unless they add VR to The Swarm.

It'll be cheaper ride hardware with more room in the budget for 'themeing'

It could be a looping star for all I care, as long as it isn't an "experience" type white elephant like Derren Brown's Replacement Bus Service, then that's all that matters.

Now, something rather interesting has been spreading around some enthusiast groups recently regarding a future project at Thorpe Park, going by the name of Project Zer0 (yes, spelt like that!). A YouTube video was uploaded by a random YouTube channel on 13th April 2018. Here's the video:

There's also an associated website that reminds me very much of the DBGT and WM mini sites in the early stages of marketing: https://www.project-zero.info/

Now, can I express that this has not been linked to Thorpe Park in any way, however many enthusiasts have been linking it to Thorpe due to related symbols appearing at different places around Thorpe Park, such as by Big Top at last year's Fright Nights event and by Nemesis Inferno. If you want to know more, here's a video by TheJackSilkstone that explains some background:

This could very well be an elaborate hoax, or just not related to Thorpe in any way at all. I'm just going off of what others have said, and if this is a hoax, then I genuinely apologise, and feel free to delete this post, mods! However, if this is genuinely Thorpe-related, then I'm excited! What do you guys think of all this?

It seems to be quite professional for a hoax. I don't know, i think the fact that this is tying in with the symbols appearing around the park could be legit. I don't want to get my hopes up for a new ride yet though.

From having a little read around on the internet, some people also think that this could be for Fright Nights 2018.

I would also agree that this looks very professional, if a little too professional, if it does turn out to be a hoax!

It does look remarkably like a Saw trailer, plus the barbed wire. I dont undstand how a retheme would make much difference though, it's all the same regardless of the number added onto the end of the title. Project Zer0, what could that mean? Is there any significance behind the zer0?
