Europa Park: The Imperfections

I have one that I'm shocked that no one has brought up and is more of a gripe for me. The UK area of the park being called 'England' and not 'United Kingdom'; some of you won't care about this but I do I, I wouldn't mind if this was England as in the flag being St George but when they are using the UK flag, yeah. I don't know if this is German thing who fail to know the difference between England and the UK, at the very least have some token Scottish and Welsh representation in the area if they are trying for a a full UK theme.

I can't be the only one who has this problem?

I think it is just how the UK/England is seen abroad.

It is a similar story at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. The England themed area of the park is covered in Union Flags, yet there is also a Scottish themed area in the park. I guess the Union Flag is so well recognised internationally that parks want to use it even if their area is called England.

You'd think that with EP being about not only enjoying seeing about other European countries but learn about them, you would think that would be a clever way to learn about the Home Nations, only time it seems when the rest of the world see that England has its own flag is either in football in rugby World Cups.

I'm disappointed that the clever Germans have had a brain fart over this, at least I can with the Americans forgive them (to bring up the quote above) mainly because they are, to many Scots, pretty stupid so it's not their fault not knowing otherwise! :p
Yes but if they did it with other countries there would the outrage, it should be sorted, make it one or the other.
Could you imagine if EP were to open a Catalonia area of the park...some in high Spanish places would sweat nervously.
I don't see it as much of a big deal, it's been that way for 34 years now and is pretty harmless.
Only because the average Scottish tourist has never heard of EP, learnt alone been to it. Far as I'm aware me and my family have been the only ones to have been there. Had more Scottish tourist been going to EP, you most certainly would have heard gripes being mentioned. EP have gotten away with this but the double edge sword with more attention you want with EP, you'll likely get some unfortunate clickbate articles.

My point exactly. It's ridiculous and is simply wrong. The UK includes Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland +*. If they want an England area they should use the English flag not the flag that represents the union of countries. It's like them using the EU flag for the France area, or in fact for pretty much every area that represents an EU nation. It should be resolved and frankly it annoys me when it's not correctly around the world, there is no reason not to see the UK as just England.
*plus some territories that are sort of part of the UK but are not part of the main union. They are not relevant for this discussion as we are talking about the Mainland UK and the countries the flag represents.

Christ. It’s a theme park, not an educational attraction detailing the history of Europe!

I’ve just Googled England flag out of interest. The third image result was the Union Flag. How truly awful!

No one cares, including most brits.

Let's be glad that EP is being talked about in Northern Ireland, talking about flags can lead to some unfortunate circumstances...Actually, let's just be glad they don't show the hand of Ulster flag flying in EP, just imagine some poor Irish person from the South or is Catholic seeing that, less said the better...

Either way, if they just simply just renamed the England section to United Kingdom then this whole topic would never had been brought up in the first place. Hell, they've already renamed the African area due to colonial connections so it's not the hardest thing to do here again.

Oh, and another thing regarding about the football attraction in England, it should represent Scotland because anyone who knows the true history of football will know that football's home is Scotland and not England as 90% of the world thinks it is! ;)

Why don't we call the area United KIngdom and then the attraction works as Scotland is in the UK (although if some Scots had there way that won't be for long)

And yes it matters, of course it matters. It's not difficult for them to sort out, it's a simple job of renaming something, not hard.

Yeah I think people are taking it too seriously. It’s not as if this flag is never used to represent English people, is never seen flown in England and is for the majority in the world the flag people associate with England.

The park plays on stereotypes with all the countries and doesn’t take itself too seriously with it’s areas. It’s just some fun. Not a geography or history lesson. I could write a decent bit about inaccuracies in the Ireland area if I wanted to but it doesn’t really matter.

1) no one cares

2) The area has no Scottish theming

3) The union flag is only really paid any attention by the English.

4) It’s not just “some Scot’s” who want rid of England.

5) Why should a German theme park give a hoopla what English people think when all our country does is attack Europe. It’s a theme to them, end of.

Sorry this is a double post (apologies @Craig ) but i have spent time at EP with a couple of Scottish people…

They cared about the beer, they couldn’t have cared less about this area, reason being they are mostly looking forward to their own EP area in the future rather than caring about a mid-used flag….. no sorry that’s a lie it was mostly because ITS A THEMEPARK THAT HAS NICE BEER!

Here endith the lesson

Euro Mir = Euro MERR

Great audio, great theme, great lift hill…. Just re track and redesign the part in between … with free spin cars…. Possible with the Mack systems as seen with time traveller….

...a less aggressive PM sent to me, rather than take this whole thing off topic, would have been preferable but, alright...

Disagreement is not aggression, if you post your opinion publicly expect a public response 👍

Stating theme parks don’t conform to foreign nationalistic divisions is not aggressive nor is it off topic (based on the direction you angled the topic) 😊
