It might be interesting to note that any snippets of marketing that have come out during the closed season have all said simply March 2012, and not the 16th of March. They might be gearing themselves up for delaying it as you say.

Maybe not, if you look on the website at the bottom it states:

The park is open for the main season between 16 March - 2 November 2013 - that means 225 action-packed days - visit the Alton Towers Resort today!

This does not mean however that they are ready to open SW7 on opening day but there is a date we have :D

Yeah sorry I meant to say marketing for SW7, not about when the park opens :)

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

Aside from the countdown on the mini site there's been very little mention of an exact date really. They seem to of kept it a bit quiet really and have only mass publicised March 2013. Given that the first day of the season is earlier on in March it gives them another couple of weeks to finish SW7 before that info is wrong. The countdown hasn't been massively advertise really, so the number of people currently aware of the date would be fairly limited I'd say. Maybe that's how Towers planned it, just to be safe after Sub-Terra?

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

www.altontowers.com/2013 has been thrown around a lot though. It was on pretty much every one of their posters and was on all of those stickers they gave out. I dare say that a lot of people visited that site and most of them would have signed up as well. Sticking a web address on things really works as its so easy to get online nowadays. So I think a fair few more people might have seen that countdown timer than you may first think. One thing I will say though is, I wonder how many people actually worked out that it pointed to March 16th? Most people would have just seen the countdown timer and ignored it.

It would be very easy for them to change the end date on the /2013 countdown, and only a few people would notice - i.e. enthusiasts

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

I'm interested in the support near the crane.
This one:

It looks like the weird "tree"-like support we were all chatting about. My question is why is that support designed as such? Instead of just going down into the pit, unless there is something complicated going on down there?

I'm right confused about this!

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

Aside from the construction discussion, I think I have worked out what #getcorrected means.

Just a possibility, bout could it be called get corrected because of the ammount of people who seem to think Enterprise is new for next year? We all know the "Under Construction" label on the map is missleading people, maybe the marketing team did too? I can immagine it annoyed a few members of staff that people were getting the wrong message!

On top of that, youv'e got the General Publics' habit of making things up about the park & its developments, and telling friends etc.

So the marketing team may have used it as a bit of a private joke really? I can't think of anything else it could relate to.

:)

It can't go directly down into the pit as there is track below it. It's the same track you can see on the left of the image. It is quite odd though that they didn't just move the support left a bit more rather than make it so complex. There's probably going to be another track section next to it as well or join onto another support.

Exactly. Equinox your just being rude. No offence but i only said it wasn't taken yesterday. Don't be so rude. Everyone has there own opinions that can be shared on the forum. Your just being childish by escalating things.

Believe me Jack, that's not me being rude.
You talk of escalating things, leave it be and get over it.... At the end of the day, TTF have got us a photo to look at and discuss.

Is there any way/any chance they can get this complete now with everything in place by the 16th??
Maybe every last contractor on site round the clock....

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

well they have moved the crane with the longer jib into the middle of the site, that should speed thing up track wise by cutting down the mount of crane movements around the site.

Yes. They can easily complete the ride by the 16th and have it fully tested in time to. The concern is what state it will be in if they rush to complete it.

Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

Let's all just calm down, have a brew and enjoy discussing the photo(s) we've seen over the last couple of weeks. The personal digs need to stop now :)

As for the opening date - I really can't decide which camp I'm in. Something we haven't seen a lot of yet is station construction. I'd expect that to be fairly progressed by now as its a key part of the build.

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

Also if you look closely and not let all the track and supports blur together you can see the end break run in the right hand corner, i think =P

That is true, although I'm pretty sure most of Thirteen's marketing (not including TV ad) just said "March 2010". I have one of the banners that were up around the park during Feb half term of 2010 and they said "coming March 2010". So I wouldn't read too much into the lack of a specific date.

I think you've looked far too much into the #getcorrected tag line. In my opinion it is relating to being corrected by the Ministry of Joy; ie to make you smile and all of that stuff!

And one final point. If that TT photo was indeed taken yesterday as it seems it was, it is extremely concerning. There appears to be a severe lack of progress since when Towers released their photo.

:)

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

Now, Towers will release a photo today with practically all the track up and the station nearly all built ;) .. That would definitely cause some... discussion? :)

If that is the break-run, then it means that they definitely have done more than you can see on the photo. I bet TT took that photo at that angle to cause everyone to think it's never going to be ready in time :) ... It's the sort of thing Towers themselves would do, and everybody's doing some fake marketing at the mo, so why not? We could well be nearly finished? *keeps fingers crossed* :D

Do we know what has changed outside the frame of this latest photo?

Well no I am making an assumption there. But considering the top of the site hadn't even had digging for footers the last time we saw it then I doubt anything significant (read vertical as that's what matters at the moment) has happened up there. And just looking at the area on the left of the photo, there doesn't appear to be any groundwork for footers at all in that area and you'd think some footers would need to be there really.

:)

I think that is the station, if you see the connection at the end of the track is the same as that little piece of track we saw in the car park so before that I think there will be the transfer track to the maintenance area. Plus that piece of track is horizontal and brake runs are usually on a diagonal?(Not too sure!)I'm not to sure about your inversion support either, haven't the foggiest! But you might be onto something there... Thankyou: for the diagram!)

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

Have a look at the plans and compare the brake run to the circuit. The 'Brake Run' as shown must be part of the inside section. What do you think.

How do I add a picture to my message. I have added Ideas to a picture of the plans. Any help.

You need to upload your image to a hosting site such as photobucket or tinypic and then copy it over from there
