Verbolten is a play on the German word verboten for forbidden, the forbidden forest

Re: [SW7] Marketing discussion

As Dave said it doesn't seem like the way Towers I'd expect Towers to announce the name, so I'm not convinced. If it is then I still don't think it's an instantly great name, but as somebody who hated the idea of it being called The Smiler I have to say I quite like it nonetheless. It's primarily because it sounds like the sort of name Ministry of Joy officials would give something, whereas The Smiler sounds more like a nickname given to something by patients. It's also a name that would suit a machine, tool or device; by contrast I can only see The Smiler as a way to refer to a person who's either deranged or ridiculous. The latter would perhaps work if an AI were involved as someone suggested earlier, but a ride is clearly not a person. :)

I'm not suggesting The Inoculator is completely random, I'm just saying it's a strange one to pick. Even if people do know what it means it's still weird. If it was called The Vaccinator (obviously that sounds ridiculous but) I think people would struggle to link something they have at the doctor's with a 'world beating' roller coaster.

I just think it's such an odd word to pick is all.

Re: [SW7] Marketing discussion

The Inoculator will not be the name for SW7. As Moley and many have said, it is more likely to be the name of the spider structure. Or a section of the ride.

Alton Towers will release the name of the ride on a bigger scale than this, I'm sure of that. They are just teasing at the moment with video stills (by the looks of it).

Re: [SW7] Marketing discussion

I really like The Smiler now, i hope it is that over The Innoculator

Re: [SW7] Marketing discussion

if you think about it , the x sector has ( or had ) a space theme ............ black hole / oblivion / enterprise / submission..... the new ride whether its smiler / sw7/ inoculator , just doesnt fit in with the space theme . :) :) :) :)

I still reckon it's the smiler as that is the trademarked name.

Re: [SW7] Marketing discussion

I quite like The Smiler due to its simplicity and the fact it works very well with the whole theme of SW7. I'm hoping it will be the name of the ride.

I just has a completely random thought. Lets say these two update were connected to the same video.

We know the first picture says 'You belong' and the second picture says '-eator. The Inoculator'. Filling in the blanks I made this up:

"You belong to our creator. The Inoculator."

Could fit in well with the spider structure (it being 'The Inoculator', this mysterious being that sits over X-Sector, watching, knowing, controlling...). I know I'm probably wrong but it just popped into my head and I thought it was quite catchy. :p

This is risking going off topic but since Black Hole closed actually very little of X-Sector has a space theme, its meant to be a government testing facility (source JW interviews).

X Sector was never space themed. Black hole was just a left over that never got rethemed.

Re: [SW7] Marketing discussion

Very interesting tease from Alton Towers!

I'm very pleased to see that they are taking the viral marketing route, something which they haven't really done yet with their new attraction.

The big question now is what will be the next stage of the campaign and when will it start?
I don't think any of us this time last week was expecting to see Mr Twirly appear all across the country and hints coming from Alton Towers on Twitter!

Re: [SW7] Marketing discussion

TheInoculator .com and .co.uk are available, so I'm guessing it isn't going to be the name.

Seems a likely name for the central theming object to me - which I also think could form part of a gimmicky world-first claim (as an alternative to the inversion record speculation).

Re: [SW7] Marketing discussion

I feel quite confident that the Inoculator will be the name of the 'spider'-esque thing, I feel like it'll be this big quirky device which is a key aspect to the overall Smiler process.

As far as I'm concerned it's far more exciting to have these little teasers of what the brand and theme are going to be like than seeing the physical metal itself! :)

Re: [SW7] Marketing discussion

That's a worse name than ThThirteenTeen and Nemesis: Sub-Terra.

It's even worse than The Smiler.

Please, please don't let it be the name.

Out of interest...

Why?

Hardly rolls off the tongue, does it?

Hardly sounds intimidating or the sort of name a large, scary, thrilling rollercoaster would have, does it?

I think they're trying to be too clever and too literal. Trying to link it to the story too much and give it a science-y name, but it doesn't sound right and will go over people's heads.

It'd be like calling Nemesis "The alien monster" or Oblivion "The experiment". It just doesn't sound good.

And it's got 'The' in it.

Re: [SW7] Marketing discussion

I think it could be the name of the 'worlds first element' or section. If there is one. Maybe you enter The Inoculator, experience the element or whatever, and exit to the lift hill.

Re: [SW7] Marketing discussion

'The Swarm' has a 'the' in it, though, and the public seem to have coped quite well...

Ultimately when it comes to really big rollercoasters like this a lot of people aren't going to pay attention to the name whatever happens, this will become "the one with lots of loops" in the same way that Oblivion is "the one with the big drop". And if I had a penny for every time someone's called Oblivion 'Black Hole' to me...

Re: [SW7] Marketing discussion

Right, lord oh lord where on earth do I even begin with all this having been away from it all evening!!

Okay, first off, I have to say, this marketing is AMAZING! They are doing exactly the right thing, creating a massive massive hype for the ride, but at no point are they telling people what emotions they should be feeling about it (Other than Smiling) But, they are not claiming that it will be the worlds most terrifying this, or the best that, or the first the other whatever! Which is exactly where they have gone wrong before! Telling people they should be scared is asking for disaster!

Now, all these different words and phrases flying around. I have to say, I LOVE them all! But, unlike most, I am also with Dave on this one! I don't want The Inoculator to be the name, I prefer The Smiler, not by a lot, but I would still rather have that as the name!

So, I agree with Rob, I feel The Inoculator will be the name of the large 'spider' like structure, I feel it will be a key feature in the ride (I mean the thing is 15meters high... Course it's going to be a key feature :p) So yes, I think The Smiler will be the name of the ride, it is a process, a movement if you will! A movement that is fronted and lead by 'The Ministry of Joy' It will involve various processes, such as Marmalisation etc. However, once you've gone through all that, you will get sent to 'The Inoculator'. Maybe because something went wrong, or maybe you need it to complete the process.

So yes, the marketing has been getting more and more all week, starting off with a few bits and bobs, now yesterday and today particularly we have seen around 4 updates/teases per day! So I feel we really are building up to something now! So, keep the eyes pealed people, I think the name will be out soon! :D

Exciting exciting times ahead guys! :D

Re: [SW7] Marketing discussion

Hey, TST admin folk. Whoever decided it was a good idea to have The Smiler flash at you in the Avatar box, thanks - it scared the krap out of me. I thought I was seeing things.

Good stuff.
