Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I wouldn't have thought they would be doing principle photography for the TV advert at this stage in the game. That crap takes time - this would have been done ages ago. The temporary lights are more likely there to keep the site lit for work/testing into the night and/or for dark promotional pictures.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

If the lights were just to light the site at night why would AT hire them via a PR agency and not directly from HSL. If they aren't for an add I wonder what they are for

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Just cos they're not for the advert doesn't mean they're not for other things - images for the press bank, to use in all other marketing material perhaps?

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I think promotional images is a good shout - if their marketing partners are setting it up there's a million things the images/video can be used for

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

They look like LED floods, City Colour discharge floods, and some kind of giant flower effect. They are not just there for work light.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

OOOhhh, looks like exciting stuff, All of these lighting fixtures, power distros and rigging equipment is giving me a techie nerd boner! :-[ :p

A high quality picture of the train with dummies here, courtesy of The Attractions Guide.

Also, just to clarify, row 1, 2 and 3 do in fact have optical illusions on the back of the head rests. On the bright side, each optical illusion is different for each seat on each row.

EDIT: Also, just to add, the dummies don't look like the usual water dummies used in recent coaster projects.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Could they be the on ride video cameras? One camera per two seats (so two cameras per row) and no cameras on the back obviously as there is no other row.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

When zoomed in, it looks nothing more than a casing for possibly electronics. One thing that does look werid is why have they put jackets on the test dummies? I guess this will be for promotional images as adding coats and jackets makes it look more like people and less like test dummies.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Hello everyone, as i visited Alton Towers today and already my image is floating around the forums of the smiler trains (From The Attractions Guide) i thought you might like these. If you want too use them feel free, please credit the image.

I hope you enjoy looking at these pictures just as much as i did taking them. ENJOY PEEPS.

On my arrival to the site this morning we noticed a light control panel in The Smiler game stand.

After rumours floating around that The Smiler testing last night we also found various wheel marks on different sections of the track.

Here is a site worker angle grinding on the track.

The guy on the right obviously doesn't like working.

Parts of the angle grinded track.

Saving the best till last, the trains awaiting to be moved into the station with testing dummies all wearing The Smiler T shirts.

I hope you enjoyed these few images. I'll upload more tomorrow.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Ok I got told they were going to do 1 lap of the track at 5 o'clock tonight just as the park was closing, a bit of a publicity stunt if you like, and it did look like that was going to happen all day.
For whatever reason it didn't happen, why I don't know, I wasn't there today so I don't know.
Testing was due again tonight, whether that took place I don't know, but I imagine it did.
I'll keep quiet from now on as I don't wish to come across as a bull shocker, and trying to work within the confines of a confidentiality agreement makes proving anything very difficult.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Starfish, can I just point out from a site perspective that there is nothing stopping you sharing whatever information you have and you are welcome to provide whatever insight you can. I'm sure many people enjoy reading your thoughts and information!

Just be aware that people can be sceptical over unsourced and seemingly random information, but just because people are sceptical doesn't mean your thoughts are not welcome! :)

Great photos Stretchy, but these ones really highlight the need for some sort of greenery to be planted in those ugly, bare piles of dirt. Anything to cover it up, it would be a damn shame if it opens looking like a construction site.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I think they might put in some plants. The landscaping around the toilet block is nicely done. They may do something similar around the rest of the site. May be they are waiting for all the construction to be fully complete?

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Anyone know if they have actually removed the logo from the front of the trains? if so I'm happy, it looked awful.

The front of the train hasn't really been visible yet. They were on the promo train images though, and as those were of the real trains I can't see why they wouldn't be on there.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Most rides open looking bare and plantless, gotta give them time for it really... Can't just put full grown trees in the ride area...

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

True but I think the concern is if they will add plant-life or intent to keep it barren.

That's why I'm holding back any opinion on what the ride looks like for now as while I have lots of little niggles there's no way of knowing what's work in progress and what isn't.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I'm sure the area around the ride will have some trees/plants. Swarm's area (Nearby the breakrun) has some trees which are still currently growing.
