6pm was the right decision yesterday. In fact, they could have pushed to 6.30pm because it was busier than when it closed at that time the other week.

The park really was busy yesterday! The Smiler was still running until 7pm!

It's the summer there is continual good weather new high level attractions for different markets from last year to this, 7pm should be a standard Saturday opening time for the summer months.

Towers is an odd cookie, sometimes people just don't stay late. Personally think they need to move to a system like EP and assess the situation each day, rather than pre-decided closing times.

Isn't this more difficult though with the obvious traveling issues?

I think that is the general consensus with regards to opening later - in that most people travel for several hours to get to AT (many staff commute over an hour) and therefore the latest they should/would open to would be say 7pm.

I know i've worked on a 7pm ride close before and it makes the day ridiculously long (2 hour commute each way meant leaving home at 6am and getting home around half 9pm!)

As Dave said, it should be decided on the day but they should keep to the formula rigidly, with no exceptions. The problem is, there isn't generally a pattern that they 100% abide by... some times they don't extend, other times they announce in advance they're closing later but actually they don't need to...

You would think it should be simply...

    Below 10,000: 5pm
    10-13,000: 5.30pm
    14-16,000: 6.00pm
    16-18,000: 6.30pm
    18-20,000: 7.00pm
    20,000+: 7.30pm

Plus, add 1/2 hour extra if it's a weekend/school holiday and the weather is fine... and obviously, they can set in stone event dates such as Scarefest and Fireworks.

I know staff will probably moan at the above, but that is how a number of major players operate.

They should definitely do that - not only is it fair, but also pretty predictable in the first place (they always have a rough idea of how many they'll have for instance, so a half hour difference to a predicted time will mean nothing to most staff as you'd be expecting it)

Just a little fun thing but as of today Towers are snapchatting from the username Alton-Towers, their story's been nice today and I reckon it'll be a bit of fun seeing how this plays out! :)

I've not done one of these for a while and it is possibly not the correct topic, but I spotted some construction over the weekend.

Over on the far side of the lake there is something happening..

That's curious, find it hard yo believe they will build a structure there as there has been no planning application and it's close the the ruins.
    no idea

Ooer... Wonder if there's a reason they're using the 'excuse our appearance while we prepare for one of our awesome events' for a specific reason or just because it fits the shape?

I was going to suggest pipe work but then I look at the second image and it seems more like a proper structure, such as a hut or decking of some sort.

As Dave said, it's strange that it hasn't had any application being so close to the ruins.

Guess we'll keep an eye on it!

With any luck, It might be a Roast And Relish shop. But whatever it is, it's going to be in just the right place to get in the way of firework launchers.

Fireworks went too well last year, they wont do it again, it will raise expectations too high

If its designed by our favourite ents manager, I could see the fireworks being up to the same standard again this year

It looks too temporary for a shop or restaurant (that would need much deeper foundations). I think it could be a base for some kind of tent or temporary structure for a ScareFest maze.

Looks to me like some form of temporary building/stage. I have no idea what for though, very strange.
