2017: New Attractions for Cbeebies Land

Looks like Alton are looking at draytons development model with expanding their primary kiddie area on low investment years.

I do hope they look at some of the other demographics the park aims for.
 
In one way I am happy with this development as I feel CBeebies Land does need more rides, especially of this type. In my opinion Peppa Pig World at Paultons and Thomas Land at Drayton are both superior childrens areas, especially when it comes to the rides.

On the other hand with the closure of several family rides this year the park is in desperate need of more things for slightly older children to do, those that are too old now for CBeebies Land but too young for the big thrill rides. Towers need to address this urgently.

Is it just the pessimist in me that fears this will just be a relocated/rethemed 'Flying Jumbos' from Chessington?
 
Never been a huge fan of flats rides personally as I don't think they are that far removed from the experiences at a local funfair, and I believe that the proportionally high number of moving parts make them largely unsuitable for the demanding duties of a theme park.

Coasters, water rides and dark rides are why I visit a theme park. SW8 looks a lot of fun and it is probably a good move to apply to both family and thrill demographics.

Whilst the selfish part of me would have liked something more thrilling, I absolutely understand the priority of Merlin is to ensure the future of the park., hence the Cbeebies addition.

Cbeebies land, brings in the kids and mum or dad or both have to come with them increasing gate revenue.

In addition, they will sell, pop and food to the whole family and most kids will leave with a Cbeebies toy or momento. An AT equivalent to a McDonald's happy meal could be a moneyspinner.

Anything that increases revenue for the park in the short term will help towards investment in the thrill market in the longer term.

Seriously though, Nick, if you are reading this, the flume is sorely missed. Give us a flume soon and make it a good one with a decent length and multiple drops ( one of which needs to be a little higher than the outgoing flume!).
 
Any chance we could see anything else for 2017 or too late?

Also anyone know if there's a chance Charlie will be back, rethemed for 2017?
 
If it turned out to be Flying Jumbos then the total hourly capacity of Chessington's rides would be even more miserable (not that it's a throughput monster; far from it, but losing any rides from an already insufficient number cannot possibly be good). Fortunately that kind of ride should be pretty cheap, so moving one that was only smartened up a few years back instead of getting a new one for CBeebies Land would be penny pinching of the highest order.

As for a possible second ride, some sort of good quality family thrill flat please Towers. I still want that Polyp in Dark Forest!
 
I can't see it being a relocated ride, they must be cheap as anything so it would be very tight of Merlin to look move a cheap ride to towers.

As for flats one in dark forest, valley and x sector would all be great
 
There's a definite need for a flat in FV. What with Ripsaw gone, Blade on its way out, and whatever's happening to Sub Terra, the area's going to need something to help soak up the crowds. But what, though?

As for this attraction in CBeebies Land? I have to admit I'm not surprised that a new ride's coming to the area, though they desperately need to sort out the station for Octonauts. And the queue for this new ride looks horrific. A cattlepen like that with kids in the height of summer? Erm, no thanks.

I'd actually argue that dark forest most urgently needs flats.

FV has:
  • One high capacity, reliable coaster
  • One low capacity, slightly unreliable coaster
  • One 36 year old flat ride that's already earmarked for removal and doesn't attract crowds
DF has:
  • Two extremely unreliable coasters with low capacity
  • Lots of space that can be used for flats but isn't
X-sector has:
  • One reliable, yet sometimes slow loading coaster
  • The smiler
  • A small space where a flat used to be
  • Another old flat ride that probably doesn't have too much time left and breaks down fairly often
Overall, by far the worst area has to be dark forest. It has the space, and there is normally a lot of people down that end of the park. Rita and th13teen both desperately need support as they both have appalling throughput and one or the other is usually down.

Wouldn't say Th13teen has an appalling throughput, it's around 1400 when at full capacity which is quite good. However I do agree that if anywhere needs a flat ride it's the Dark Forest.
 
Dark Forest doesn't have a ton of usable space, bar the area where Ug Swinger once stood. A lot of modern flat rides actually take up a ton of space, especially if they have a large queue area.
 
Yes, Towers definitely need more flats now as they're becoming a rare/dying breed.

By 2020, there may be now thrilling flats left at the park. This 2017 Beeb land addition is the least the park needs and they could easily add something like a Disko, air race or polyp on one of the currently vacant spots (not that it's going to happen).

In 2016 there are no thrilling flat rides left at Alton Towers.

Enterprise barely makes the grade in this day and age.

Sad to say it, but even legoland has a disko. Chessington has more thrilling flats (Ramses, and arguably kobra), and its honestly embarrassing when chessingtons doing something better than you.

And it's amusing to see that they no longer try to sell blade as thrilling. I'm sure a few years ago they rated it similarly thrilling to submission. Still push enterprise for it though. I can see why, it up there next to Skyride in my opinion. They're the few rides at towers that genuinely scare me. Zodiac at thorpe doesn't even have a puddle of oil underneath it.
 
I'm really not *that* bothered about flats tbh. Coasters, water rides and dark rides are far more interesting to me.

Enterprise and Blade are both in the Laughs and Frights section now. Only the big 6 coasters come under Thrill now.
