2024: General Discussion

Hi,

I have another silly question but would be grateful if someone could help me.

I own Gold AT Pass, am I allowed to upgrade to express parking for £10 because on the parking website it only mentions Merlin Pass holders?

Thanks

For anyone looking for this answer in the future - Gold AT Pass Holders are allowed to pay £10 for the express parking upgrade.

It more than likely hit a ride or the towers if its in that general area. They 'should' be able to manage that just fine with lighting rods. I say should because that tree got destroyed a few years back.

The return of Hex....

If they played their marketing cards correctly if Hex is returning for Scarefest to turn this into a positive then that would be one of the greatest unintentionally PR stunts from Towers.

Looking at the map it wasn't anywhere near the park! It was actually more towards Denstone

Lightningmaps.org is always the first thing I open when a storm is nearby for the live strike tracking.

AT just need to plant a few more massive pine trees so they grow taller than the rides and get struck instead like the one the other year.

When I was at Universal Osaka last week (trip report below if you're interested) the entire park closed for a lightning storm.

I was told it was in case of a power cut so i'm guessing that was in case lightning hit something and people got stuck on a complex ride like Harry Potter but in retrospect that didn't explain why the 4D cinemas were closed. Was this an overly cautious Japanese thing or is that a standard response from a theme park? The lightning was pretty wild in fairness but actually the indoor rocking tug boat was the sole ride to remain open (90 min queue lol) so couldn't really figure it out.

my guess is being cautious but also the park probably wasn't designed to operate whilst it was thunder storming (it is safe, just it may not run when in thunderstorms).

In Florida they experience thunderstorms practically weekly (if not daily) so a lot of their indoor rides are open as usual and importantly a lot of the queues are indoors or under cover meaning there is no chance someone is getting stuck whilst waiting for the ride, but at a park like alton a large part of a lot of their queues are outside, even curse you have to walk through that forest section potentially putting people at risk.

edit: also if power was lost, it can be very difficult to regain power, depending on where it has been cut

Just an update from this morning I’ve received from the park:
  • Following adverse weather overnight, routine morning checks identified some storm impact to our systems, as well as ride and attraction areas. This has all now been resolved.
  • In addition, as part of our routine procedures during adverse weather conditions, our teams conduct additional checks across the Resort to ensure we can safely deliver our standard operations before opening the park to guests. These extra precautions result in longer preparation times compared to a standard day.
  • This resulted in the park turnstiles opening at the slightly later time of 9.45am (vs 9am) with the large majority of rides and attractions readily available. The short delay to turnstiles opening was communicated to today's guests via the App and colleagues on the ground.
  • Once open, additional communication was sent to guests via the App to notify them that weather radars in the area continue to show adverse weather in the area throughout the day which may result in a pause to some rides and attractions. Naturally, our teams will aim to keep disruption to a minimum and we will continue to communicate any updates to guests via the Resort App as normal.

Can anyone confirm if the golf game is on the go this season? The one where you try and land balls into a target on the lake for a cash prize.

It certainly looked like it was operating last weekend. Watched them fishing golf balls out of the lake as the sun set.
Must be a fun job lol. Do you know how much a game is? Been meaning to have a go for ages but never got around to it.
