[2024] Thorpe Park: Hyperia - Mack Hypercoaster

I was at the park in September and Colossus went down as I was in the station. After a while of waiting whilst they tested it and tried to get it running they announced that they were evacuating the station and that we’d all get given a fast track as we filed out, but it specifically stated on it that it wasn’t valid for Hyperia. I did wonder what those that were actually stuck on the cramped train for ages in the break run were given as compo such as a FT that did include Hyperia perhaps?
The Hyperia fast tracks are specifically for that one ride only and aren't valid on any other ride. Usually they were given to people who'd travelled a long way only to find it closed, or queued N hours for it and not got on due to a breakdown. I know quite a lot of people that have been offered them this year. While not dated they do have to be used by the end of the season.

It's so weird seeing old pics of that side of the park with just saw and colossus. Hyperia makes such a statement and It's crazy to think how much the skyline really has changed

Yeah, I saw TPWW make the comment he'd like to see the night ride be in full darkness or different lighting (assume he means like Nemesis where although lit up still feel darker). I think it's fine as it is.. Stands out nicely.

Seeing that side profile, just look at all that space though where there could have been some more elements. It makes me want to draw some more on. Such a wasted opportunity from all that height.
Maybe one for another thread..Has a rollercoaster ever had an extension fitted?

On that subject, if Phantom's Revenge is a new cred to Steel Phantom, pretty much all the BPB woodies are new creds compared to their original selves..... Then I say Nemesis Reborn is a seperate cred to Nemesis.

.... What was this topic again?

Burton on Hyperia

The way the theme and naming and style and logo have flopped into existence rather than being coherently constructed also makes sense of what we now have. The water splash being a half arsed attempt to fit the theme does make more sense than the theme being a considered effort to fit the water splash that might have originally been intrinsic to the design. It's all a bit backwards and undoubtedly a less complete attraction on the whole as a result.
All of what you say here is beyond John Burton's control. He isn't the ride's marketeer, nor is he responsible for maintaining the ride's budget. John's an asset to the UK theme park industry as a storyteller, you only have to look at Nemesis Reborn and The Curse At Alton Manor to see his talents as a creative mind when he's given the budget to execute a themed attraction properly. At the end of the day though, Hyperia is a thrilling hyper coaster first and themed attraction second. Hyper coasters are rarely themed due to how much more expensive the hardware is than a smaller coaster, but they should still be well presented. I'm certain that the ride's presentation issues boil down to a lack of budget allocated to the creative team by Merlin's senior leadership, and in all honesty, all three of the major coaster installations this year have had serious issues with this. Just look at the cheap theming and zero landscaping on Legoland's new duelling coasters... that wasn't a John Burton attraction, and it's tacky beyond belief. Nemesis Reborn looked like a construction site on opening day also, but it still had a fair amount of imagination go into reimagining the station and surrounding area.

Then there are showstopping things about Hyperia like the station's internal show sequence, which is a very nice touch and makes for a more memorable experience than boarding Silver Star and Shambhala.

Compare with Wardley - not only about theming and story, but that the guest should be thrilled from the start and at the end. I haven't experienced it yet, but I think there's no audio track - quite poor in 2024
