[2024] Thorpe Park: Hyperia - Mack Hypercoaster

What's there looks really good, it does look short though. It'll probably be the best coaster in the UK regardless.

I’m going to leave any judgment until it leaves the top of the lift with me on it. However, I’m sceptical about how this will ride, looks a bit too compact and short for a hyper. Obviously I’m hoping to be proved wrong and it turns out to be very enjoyable and unique.

Could this be a Vekoma - just thinking the supports don’t look really Mack.

Some of the supports remind me of the new balls to the walls crazy Mack being built in China - Hurricane Roller Coaster:

It strikes me that the layout is similar to Saw's outdoor section, just made larger and a bit crazier. It might be a bit of a stretch but ultimately highlights how this doesn't really add much dimension to the park's overall lineup.

Both feature:
  • Large drop (over vertical or twisted vertical)
  • Into an Immelmann like loop
  • Into a turnaround of some sort
Exodus then has:
  • Dive loop (later on Saw)
  • Some kind of trim brake (Exodus is the splashdown, Saw is the block brake)
  • Weird corkscrew/overbank (only element Saw doesn't feature)
  • Airtime hill
I'm sure Exodus will be by far the better ride but I can't help feeling that this is a missed opportunity.

The more I look at this the more I’m thinking meh

what the park needs is a massive airtime machine. What’ it’s getting is a compact coaster, albeit at height with two large inversions.
As other have said, SAW and colossus cater for this already..,

really disappointed from what’s been shown so far. Can only hope the final product offers more…

mad for AT’s comments on social media, interesting….probably banter but is that an early indication that a thrill coaster is on its way?

I dunno, the more I look at it the more I see airtime potential. Perhaps it will be more clear when someone makes a no limits video.

Length is an issue but I think there will be a decent amount of airtime.

Hope your right, but I’m just not feeling it

My early thoughts are that it will be a great coaster that packs a punch, but is rather short. I was hoping for more of a traditional airtime machine but this still looks good.

As for the comments on Alton Towers' social media, I would not look too much in to them.

Would've preferred a traditional out and back Hyper but a 230ft 180 degree near verticle drop with Mack restraints suggests airtime. Then there's the outerbanked hill into an inversion.

true….
I’m sure it will be a great ride, but like you say I’d prefer something more traditional.

I guess in your mind you imagine one thing then when you get another there is disappointment

On the positive side, any major UK coaster is a bonus. And it does show that Merlin (or new Merlin) aren’t scared to invest after the pandemic - two new major coasters coming

Irony being that a slightly taller clone of Flash would've ticked everyone's boxes in terms of what people want.

But given the choices made regarding Chessie's new coaster are we surprised that it's a... different choice?

I must admit I was expecting something a bit more "out-and-back". Perhaps all the talk of a B&M hyper set my expectations along the lines of Silver Star or Shambhala. This does look much more compact than that, and I do wonder if it's going to be able to take advantage of that height.
