[2025] Project Ocean: New Forbidden Valley Flat Ride

Why is the marketing lime green? Why is there a brutalist concrete structure? Why is there a gloss black Sci-Fi theme with flashy red lights and a metal fence at the entrance to FV? They seem desperate to turn this area into X-sector 2.

More duplication in a park that has a Haunted Hollow, a Dark Forest, a Gloomy Wood, and a standalone ride themed to a haunted tree branch. It'll be spaceships in Mutiny Bay and RMT will be rethemed to a secret organisation experiment next.

It's a Phalanx themed area now. I'm pretty sure that John Burton confirmed that Project Horizon will carry a more fantastical or whimsical theme, so we can probably assume that there may not be any further 'duplications' of existing theming styles beyond Forbidden Valley.

This place spent most of the last year saying black was X-Sector's colour. Now all of a sudden it's green and concrete.

Any excuse to have a moan.
Nothing like hiding behind the (™️) veil of indirect generalisations in which to avoid the scrutiny that would otherwise likely follow by doing so directly.

Touche, any excuse to have a moan.

Bright primary colours among greys, blacks, and brutalist concrete has always been a thematic feature of X Sector. So hardly a "sudden" revelation as you describe is it?

That seems more than just a bit of a concrete bridge to hold the ride. Its a substantial size and its clear this had to be started this year for next season
I might be going crazy, but did I read/hear somewhere that it will have a vortex tunnel of some description? I'm probably going crazy 🤷‍♀️

I read that somewhere too, I'd be very surprised if we got a walk-through trommel tunnel when Curse's keeps having issues 🙃

I'm not sure I've even skim read the conversation properly, but just wanted to add this point. As someone who's regularly visited in a group with kids and adults who want to ride Nemesis, the battered pirate ship really makes the difference in entertaining kids while the adults and 1.4's are queuing/riding.

Same with all areas really, works best when something for everyone.

Sorry I just don't agree. Some areas should be reserved for the thrillseekers IMO and I believe FV and X Sector should stay that way.
I'd happily see more family flat rides put in some of the other areas though as I said above.

Considering they are adding a 5th permanent ride there for 2025 and it's going to be another 1.4 height restriction...... clearly the park seems to agree with me too. 4 to 1 in terms of high thrills is hardly a family area is it? I don't think the theme of Forbidden Valley suits a family experience either. It's very much geared towards the teenagers and above.

I would agree with X sector as all the family areas (DF/Cbebbies/mutiny bay) are very close, (less than 2 min walk).

But FV is much more separated from the park being a couple mins from the curse, and further from Katanga, it is very separated meaning there aren't much alternatives for kids without getting very far, essentially meaning the option is that they have to split for a long period of time in the day.

Large numbers of families with young children visit the park.
Making some areas "exclusive" to thrill seekers makes problems for family groups...what are the little ones going to do when the older ones go on the big rides?
There should be kiddie stuff in all areas, it is a family park.

Keep the brats occupied, and not under my feet.

Can always tell the posters who don't have kids, or visit with kids
Indeed. Walking tired little legs all the way down to the bottom of X Sector to find Enterprise closed. Trying to keep an 8 year old entertained whilst taking it in turns to ride Nemesis and Galactica. Walking an excited kid around Thorpe Park having to navigate crowds of teenagers shoving you out the way, smoking, swearing, and spitting everywhere.

Luckily, all of mine are now 1.4 and above. But Alton was one of the most stressful and exhausting parks to take them to when they were all different sizes.

Bearing in mind most kids reach 1.4 between 8 and 10, there's absolutely nothing about the theme of Forbidden Valley that requires some sort "thrill area only" design. It's a family area, in a family park. There's no benefit I can think of at all to make it such an area either?

I do totally agree that X Sector is in need of at least 1 ride with a lower height requirement and Forbidden Valley is in need of one more lower height requirement ride and possibly a playground.

Dark Forest could do with something for those under 1.2m although that could easily be solved with a playground or an adventure trail. It is not as crucial with Walliams World nearby though.

It won’t stop you banging on about how valley is turning into x-sector (which it isn’t), but why have you concluded the brutalist concrete structure is how the structure will look when it’s finished.

It’s a concrete base, by default at this stage it will be concrete colour, was you expecting them to mix some dye in with the sand before setting it?

Maybe it will be exposed concrete once complete, we don’t know, but can we at least wait for it to be finished before we start the next round of “valley is the same as x-sector”…

Valley when it first opened had a range of rides including a children’s coaster, and a family coaster, it’s also had a breakdance and a climbing wall in its time.

I think we all agree it doesn’t need CBeebies level rides in it but some 0.9 to 1.2m attractions are definitely needed.

Entirely a pure assumption, based on the also unconfirmed rumour that it's a HUSS Top Spin. I had pointed this out earlier, but it's understandable that it might have got missed in the noise.
The noise around a Huss Top Spin seems to have come from the planning documents where it mentioned a Top Spin style ride.

No explicit confirmation or plans showing this however it doesn't mean it'll be Huss. It's assumed that it's Huss manufacturing it.

It does almost confirm it is a Top Spin style ride if anything.

In typical Ride Rater fashion, they don't link to the planning documents or provide a quote from their source. In this instance it's because the words "top spin" don't appear in the planning applications. The planning permissions do demonstrate that the attraction itself will stand at 18m tall, from ground level.

Never ever trust anything ride rater says unless another source has confirmed.

That said this is almost certain a Huss floorless topspin.
