It is perhaps unsurprising that the same theme park who openly welcomed Nigel Farage last year (with the owner calling him "Sir" Nigel) have decided that Pride events are no longer for them after being unhappy with the performance of a drag queen.

Philip Miller can be rest assured that I won't be rushing back to his park, because it's a bit crap and I'm no fan of gammon.

I read the BBC article and I had a look on Twitter for a video of the performance and if I’m being honest, I can understand why the park might feel that it wasn’t right for them. It is definitely a bit suggestive, however you’d think that if it’s not what the park want then they should have done their homework a bit better and checked that kind of performance they were getting beforehand.

I don’t necessarily take it as an overall anti-Pride or anti-drag stance by the park, just more that they felt that particular performance wasn’t where they wanted to go.

Oh come on, the owner has literally said "pride is not for us". And unfortunately when you look at the comments on the Facebook post about this event (which they seemed really pleased about at the time), they're pretty toxic.

Fair enough if the performance wasn't suitable for their audience, but that comes down to a communication issue between the park and the act.

The same act has been performed on national TV with the angle grinder, just not in drag. Adventure Island stated "pride is not for us" after the Daily Mail publised a load of hate.
Maybe the act wasn't appropriate but that's where the organisers need to discuss things better with performers and set out what they expect. But to invite a performer for the third year running and then only have a problem with them once the Daily Mail start hating shows a bigger issue.

Strange how a lady on Britain’s Got Talent (a family show) did pretty much the same performance but without the backlash, yet a drag queen does it and suddenly it’s ‘somebody think of the kids’ ‘sick’ ‘groomer’ 🙄

The angle-griding thing, while skilful, is a completely boilerplate act these days, isn't it? Seen it everywhere from cabaret to stunt shows and as the article acknowledges, even on Britain's Got Talent.

The park could easily have dealt with this internally without having to resort to "pride isn't for us" as a statement, which is obvious political culture war bait.

Sorry, you are right, yes the owner did definitely state that “Pride is not for us” following on from the performance and that they will not “participate in any future Pride celebrations”.

Looks like they’ve thrown Crystal under the bus here for not doing their research on what exactly the act would involve which is a pity.

The whole response would have been fine if it weren't for the 'pride isn't for us' bit. No need to add that, no need to lump one performance they didn't like in with the whole concept of the movement and event. I can't believe that is what he meant to say really, I know the park and a good few people that work there and for all its faults inclusively isn't one of them.

In other Adventure Island news, The Screamer has returned at last from wherever it has been.

They’re allies until it’s difficult, or not financially convenient. Crystal has ALWAYS done angle grinding as an act, but this year it’s been picked up by the tabloid rags.

It whiffs of homophobia and the park gave absolutely thrown her under the bus

Anyone know of any seaside park that isn't run by right wingers...it isn't really a socialist trade.
And that article is five years old...surely we can find something more offensive than that in a deep trawl.

And then this happened there too...

A bizarre article, including this expert which makes sense when you see the pictures...
