As much as It pains me I’m going to side with @Rick on this one. They don’t have a captive audience unlike Towers or Thorpe, there is a whole range of parking options to choose from in Blackpool and if you are foolish enough to pay £18 because you can’t be bothered to A - Walk or B - do some research then more fool you.

And dippy, don't grumble about me moaning about people who whine about the avoidable parking charges.
I love a meaningful debate me...and you can bitch with the best of the whining tykes.
And if it does go up to a tenner a pint in Crevettes, you will have to start standing your round.

For context, I am not sure some people understand or identify the difference between me 'backing' things and rationalising others. Almost like the difference between sympathy and empathy.

If the Thompson family (or Merlin for that matter) didn't have to bankroll things, operate within a complicated and evolving legal environment, live/'survive' with the consequences of acting or not acting in certain circumstances like we as enthusiasts don't have to, I am sure their actions would be different - but they do.

It also unnerves me that people don't see the fragility in this industry that we all love. I grew up with 5 parks within 30 minutes drive from my house, now there is one lone survivor in BPB that is battling against those same pressures.

I think the community is too quick to give people crap, it really removes any force when they actually deserve it. If you read this thread you'll see the same people are annoyed about 10 different things yet still they return and spend their money. Stick that on your chart :)

But the bit circled isn't BPB. The flume only got planning permission to be temporarily where it is so they could do improvements to the pier which never happened, basically lies to get the permission through so they could move it and stick their steel coaster on the end of the pier. Planning permission for anything on the west side of the prom/tram tracks is extremely unlikely for anything and always has been, think the only thing that got permission recently was the council's new register office.
 
I don’t see the Flume as being any more of a detriment to the environment in this area than the go kart track on the other side of the pier.

In fact the Flume is arguably a lot less of an eyesore than some barren tarmac with used tyres spread across it, fronted by a bland box with paint peeling from it. Oh yeah, and the constant chug of petrol powered go karts as a background drone.

Let’s not also forget the warehouse/tableaux directly in front of the Flume, which is used for only two months a year during Illuminations. Yet it stands abandoned for the other ten months.

And why oh why, if the Council wanted to smarten up this section of the front did they just tarmac it. It looks like a disused car park. The biggest single improvement they could make is to continue the finish used along the rest of the prom. I’d imagine it’s got something to do with the Pier owning the land, but then why tarmac it at all? Either let the Pier sort it out or do a deal with them which results in something better than what is now there, because it’s really poor.

Good old Geoffrey would have a field day with this I’m sure.

@venny I think you're right in practical terms but in political terms it's not as simple as that. As part of the CPO on the Karting 2000 land there was an agreement that they would receive a new prominent locstion.

I guess you don't want to set a precedent that they're open to more development west of the tracks outside of what's already there - unless you're the RNLI or the council itself, of course.
 
One for the park nerds, BPB have a ‘HACKING STREET’ sign on eBay now. I can’t see that going for Mousey levels of cash!

Am I right in thinking that Hacking St was the name for the path that went under The Big One’s brake run down towards the Dodgems, also does anyone know if there was any significance at all to the name ?

@rob666 I didn't spot anyone on the red posts who has passed, so presumed it was a mark of those who were involved at the time of opening/construction. Barbara has one.
