Blackpool Pleasure Beach: Icon - 2018 Mack Double Launch Coaster

If he said "one of the most exciting" then that would be fine.

But yeah, nothing wrong with a bit of talking your investment up to the press, as long as you don't make a blatantly false world's first claim or something....

Oh I don't have an issue with it, I just find it mildly amusing! I agree, it is refreshing to see such passionate owners here in the UK, I hope Icon is the first of a number of exciting additions at BPB over the coming years.

:)

Spotted in the station today that the internal wall running the entire right hand side of the track has started to be finished. They are using the same textured browny-grey tiles as those which have appeared on what looks to be the new exit shop. There is also a new door opening into the train storage area on the bridge side of the station.

Quite a lot of touching up going on of those pesky scratches that have been bothering Amanda. Good to see work over a weekend. They are clearly keen to get this finished.

I think they are a bit over-excited but given theyve not had a ride like this for 24 years, i understand.

I don't think it's any secret that Nick is the driving force behind the 'ride' aspect of the park. When you're the fourth generation of Thompson family, there must be some real aspiration to do what you can to add to the ride collection.

Unfortunately for Nick & Amanda, so much of their time (and money!) has had to be spent doing less fun stuff.

Indeed. Amanda seems to be more of a driving force in the "fountains" aspect of the park.

Re the social media comments, I've been seeing a lot of people on my own social media circles, who absolutely aren't geeks in any way and wouldn't normally mention this sort of thing, talking about Icon and how good it looks. I think they're on to a winner with this, they're marketing it well and it looks fantastic, despite Wild Mouse, this should be an extremely successful year for the park.

My concern for this year with BPB is that Icon will indeed attract thousands of extra people, that' great obviously. But my worry is that the rest of the park simply can' cope on a reasonably busy day now. Even if the park is on so called capacity, the Avalanche and Big One are on 2 trains not 3, the Streak is grounded on 1 and the National is a farce regardless of 2 or 4 trains on the circuit. Filler rides like the Monorail/Ark have been axed and not replaced and the crowds build and build elsewhere.

I see the summer season being quite bad to be honest.

That's an irrelevance if the park increase visitation by 10 to 20%, which they're no doubt hoping.

It won't increase by 20%, that's a bit optimistic in my opinion.

I know it's difficult to make comparisons for various reasons but HP world did 30% for IOA and that was the biggest event in the past decade for the industry.
