Blackpool Pleasure Beach: Icon - 2018 Mack Double Launch Coaster

I can't wait for them to start testing it with the low speed launches, building up to full speed, and the inevitable "it's not safe, it can't even make it over the first hill" in the Gazette's comments

"it's not safe, AND they haven't paid back the loan off the council! Stealing our tax money!" (even though it's a loan with interest and it's been paid back already)

Colour me surprised. Great news though.

I’d imagine this means that what will drive the opening date will be queue line/landscaping, rather than the ride hardware itself. There looks to be a fair bit to do in the lake area. Nothing to say they can’t finish the aesthetic details off after opening though.

I wonder what they're actually planning to do in the former Tom Sawyer lake area. I'd like to see some water back in there but would be surprised if it happened. It would be a bit crap for Icon to just be traversing over loads of concrete

I’ve wondered this for a while. At the start people were theorising that the lake would be refilled but it’s clear from how they installed the foundations etc that this won’t happen.

There are a lot of areas where they just won’t be able to do too much with other than a bit of grass seed (think the area between the station and bridge). There are also some less than attractive features like the massive concrete retaining wall that sat between the bumper boat station and Turtle Chase. It will be interesting to see if anything is done with that.

I’m guessing we’ll see more trees like those planted around Steeplechase. Also, if those pad foundations in that area are going to support themeing elements (my guess is some rock work) it would make sense that there would be something similar installed in the lake area.

At the weekend there was also what looked like a water feature reservoir sitting in the fenced area by Big One. I’m not sure what reason there is for that to be in the area other than perhaps a plan for some sort of small fountain sitting in that fenced off area. That could look quite nice if it happened.

There is of course also Amanda’s Japanese garden which she was looking for a space for. I’d imagine that would be somewhere in the lake area.

They're trying to work out the slowest (cheapest) possible speed they can get away with launching at.

The sad thing is that this is entirely believeable!

I think I will cry if it crawls over that hill, the possible airtime if it is taken at a good speed is not something I want us to have to miss out on.

EDIT:

Amada has confirmed its completed a circuit, however in all the excitement she has missed a photo.. :D:eek:

JOHN - SEND IT ROUND AGAIN!!! :p

:)
