The problem is people think it's all over now. Nobody seems to be social distancing, nobody seems to care. Maybe when things start getting locked down again people will take it seriously... again ... :rolleyes:

There's talk in the media that some things might need to close to allow schools to reopen. Places that have low compliance with social distancing would seem a likely target.

I was at Chessington yesterday and the queues were similar to those shown at Alton Towers and Pleasure Beach. I even had one person in the shop come right up behind me and ask to get past (I guess seeing the gap in front of me). I said "no, this is the queue...". You can hardly call these venues "Covid Secure".

I would hope virtual queuing systems would be used before it gets to that point.
 
Now they're talking about potentially forcing all over 50s to self isolate at home, and could order people not to meet anyone from outside their houses again.:eek::oops:
 
The reason they are blaming gatherings inside houses is because from the Test & Trace data that the government has, the most commonly cited places of catching the virus are when visiting friends & family at their houses.

To be fair, this is also the one that offers the most potential for rule-breaking (a business is likely going to be substantially stricter with measures than a lone household accepting people inside; there are no laws dictating what you can and can’t do inside a house, while businesses have to reach a certain level of COVID security to stay open) and the least economic benefit to the government. So I think this will likely be the first thing removed if cases do majorly spike.

An argument could be made that the data for this is biased, because people will be able to tell the tracing system those they met who they knew. Wouldn't be able to tell the tracer the random people they queued next to, sat on a train next to, or had come stand close to them. So they'll have data for one and not the other.

Presumably T&T can obtain some of that data.
 
I went to Cardiff yesterday and saw very few eateries complying with social distancing, the majority of pubs/restaurants had tables and chairs less than 2m apart (which is still the law here) and crammed with customers, clearly with most people just being groups of friends from different households out for a social meet up.

I don't particularly believe being in public spaces is any 'safer' than being in your own garden with a few friends.
 
Don't worry, it was just discussed as something that may or may not happen way down the line if things get a lot worse again. The newspapers obviously choose to make it a headline though. Nothing to see.

Isn't that some one step before total lockdown in localized zone?
All non essential services shut first. A bit of a long road before that happens.

One last amusing observation from the weekend.
I did all three piers in Blackpool, and Southport pier.
Gated and counted in on the Blackpool piers, gated, counted in and temperature checked going on Southport pier.
All were packed, very few masks worn (apart from me!), and there was pretty much zero social distancing.
The first pier was the north pier, it had a large laminated sign, listing all covid procedures to be followed...including giving your contact details to the security staff on entry.
Not once was I ever asked for contact details, despite being in an indoor entertainment establishment.
I have had no problems distancing on the Beach...though I have not done a peak time visit, only gone on wet weekdays recently to avoid the crowds.
Businesses are simply getting the money in while they can, knowing the next closures are not far away.
