So, we have the 1st confirmed case of a 33 year old man having covid twice just 4 months after being confirmed with it. Apparently it's a different strain of the virus and he was only detected by an airport screening test. He had no symptoms. Being reported in various news sources but this has a scan of the report. This could potentially mean unless a vaccine covers all strains, then it may be of little use.

Apparently vaccine developers have confirmed that the disease’s mutations have not been pronounced enough to affect a vaccine thus far.

It’s worth noting that the disease reportedly mutated between first being discovered in China and coming to Europe, so it’s a possibility that this person could have been infected with the initial Chinese strain the first time and the European strain the second time. The fact that the individual was reportedly travelling in Spain & Britain makes this sound even more plausible, in my opinion.

The WHO have also encouraged us to “not jump to any conclusions based on 1 patient out of 23 million”, which I think is wise advice at this point.

So did an hour round trip, over 2 toll bridges and past the AstraZaneca factory in Speke to donat plasma today.

Only to find out immediately I cannot donate Plasma as my veins are too narrow. Gutted! I also didn't get an antibody test, so guessing I'll never know for certain if I had COVID back in March.

On the plus side I've spoken to Ipsos Mori and will be donating blood for research purposes

I should be on commission for bigging up Dr. John again but his review of the case of reinfection is important balance against the sensationalised "re-infection".

His bottom line comment is that we don't need to worry for 1 case out of ~24m (as pointed out earlier in this thread) and goes on to explain why he believes this. The segment about inductive vs deductive is spot on and something I have seen in the long haul community, there is certainly a lot of trauma bonding happening and X tablet works for me so you should definitely take this random supplement to recover. There's a lot of food for thought, which he backs up but as always it's good to get views from as many different places as possible and make your own mind up

Loving the way the gov't have avoided having a big 'my kid won't be going back to school in the next fortnight under these circumstances' debate by concocting the 'will the kids be wearing masks when they definitely do go back to school in the next fortnight' debacle. It's very impressive how they do it with the willingness of the media to keep churning it out day after day. Completely drowned out the sound of all of the mommies who wanted Covid life to continue for as long as possible. Bravo.

Boris does seem extremely work shy. Or is that so everytime the government messes up he can come in and "take control" of the situation?

It is quite sad that everytime something does go wrong the media are happy to assist with the printing of whatever distraction story they've got.

Buggered up the future of the country through A-Levels? Best put some more countries on the quarantine list.

I suspect Boris is a Long Hauler and it is why he's not been as visible as he should have been since getting ill. This would give some credence to the rumours that he could resign (although these were discredited at the moment.)

China has already started vaccinations and is preparing to have their vaccine on sale by December at a price of £106. There are some concerns about China's ability to scale up the vaccine globally and that China is using the vaccine for dilomacy.

But surely if they have a vaccine that they’re prepared to give to the rest of the world, and it’s gone through the necessary testing, then that can only be a good thing?

A vaccine is ultimately what will help us get out of this, so I welcome this news with great positivity!

Given China's regards to human rights, "necessary testing" might be different to lot of other countries standards. Whilst I'd welcome a vaccine from anywhere right now, it has to be safe and not producing long last effects. Especially if a vaccine is made mandatory like they are in Australia.

Fixed it for you, basically everywhere that is working on a vaccine is working on an accelerated schedule, the chance of error does seem higher then most, I'd be more inclined to trust a vaccine from a country that's shown themselfs to be competent at handling the pandemic in general and Norris and co are not it (Scotland maybe?)

If the only successful vaccine is from China and it is approved for usage by the WHO, why wouldn't you? I get that there's an anti-china rhetoric with the world but as long as it stands up to scrutiny, then it really doesn't matter where the vaccine originates.

Plus we may not have much choice if we follow our Oz cousins.

The virus came from China, both countries apparently have started vaccinating their people (as far back as July in China it now emerges), and both countries are flexing their military might against the West..... so excuse me if I don't trust them at all.

And we do have a choice whether we agree to have a chemical injected in to our bodies or not.
