But despite the above, if you just close all hospitality venues then what will people do? Not go out? Or do you think they'll just meet up in private households and drink there instead, and with less safety precautions than in licensed premises?

Unlike in March, people are fatigued with the restrictions and if you ban things then I think you'll just push it underground. Best to regulate rather than prohibit.

The arguements in favour of not locking down seem very similar to the ones for legalisation of certain drugs and that's still hotly debated!
 
Totally agree with what @Alsty said above. In fact, I don't mind admitting that is exactly what I *would* do if pubs / restaurants and other leisure attractions such as theme parks closed again.

The problem then is then that, with people meeting up in private households, it is much less likely that social distancing and the "rule of six" will be observed.
 
There a 1 idiot at work lucky his on nights. After been on furlough for over 4 months has been watching to much news on the internet and thinks it’s a hoax and there’s many bigger killers like cancer or the flu. He refuses to wear a mask in shops and on public transport and he will knock out anyone who asks him. He is willing to get the sack if they do force workers to wear masks at work

Really. He will punch someone over a request to wear a mask. That will get him into trouble. Especially if its a plain clothes copper asking.

Saw someone just like that in Tescos yesterday. Couple in their early 20s in the checkout in front of me. The woman said to her boyfriend "everyone's staring at us cos we aren't waring masks". He replied "I don't give a f*** cos it's a made up virus anyway"

If waring a mask was just to protect yourself then I wouldn't mind so much, but the main reason for waring a mask is not to protect yourself but to protect others, in case you unknowingly have the virus . That is why it is so selfish refusing to ware a mask in shops.

Or even bigger trouble if it’s someone that knows how to fight back, it won’t be long before he is the one getting knocked out if he has that big a mouth.
 
Anyone else feeling a bit annoyed Alton has gone to so much effort this year with OctoberFest and all the new Scarefest line up when most of us havent been able to visit!! I just hope they do the same and better line up next year! :) :)
 
Many co-workers think his a idiot. With my boss self isolating to Tuesday from America I will bring it to his attention as them 4 months in lockdown watching YouTube videos and reading other stories has really screwed with his mind. His upset a few co-workers as a couple of them has lost friends and other family members got a positive result so went into self isolation for 14 days. I not read much into the testing side of it but he said it’s the same test they do for HIV.
 
The procedure for the test is almost identical. However its the marker chemicals that are different.
So he is half right.

Now there's talk of masks being made compulsory on offices in the UK, plus Italy have made masks compulsory outdoors. :oops:
 
I mean no, what a miserable world it'd be if we all had to whisper all the time. Masks are 100% the better solution...

This is something that worries me. Depending on what material the face covering is made from dictates the level of protection in certain situations.
The force of air changes the protection on lower level coverings.
If the actor can blow out a lighter then shouting though it makes the covering useless at 1metre.
