Drinks Capsules

This has just been posted on the MAP page.

The Merlin Annual Pass Drinks Capsule has been available for Passholders to purchase for the past 3 years.

Since its introduction, we have consistently sought feedback from our Passholders. This resulted in a new vessel for 2012.

Following your feedback, we are happy to announce the following changes to the Capsule for 2013:

We will have a preliminary stock of new capsules delivered to Chessington World of Adventures and Warwick Castle in January 2013.
From 2013 onward the capsules will be valid for the life of your Merlin Annual Pass

This means the capsule is valid for an additional 3 months, previously they have been valid for 9 months from the date of purchase in March, until the 31st December.

Although the capsule is now valid for longer, giving our valued Passholders more opportunities to refill their capsule, the price will remain at £16.

2013 Merlin Annual Pass Drinks Capsule
Interesting that they've made some changes to the terms and conditions, but it's a shame that the capsule design looks the same. ???

If that's the same capsule, I will be angry. I've had nothing but issues with mine this year, and so have Merlin, seemingly!

Given that they're describing it as a new design and promising it won't suffer from the same issues as this season's it'd be very odd if it was the same :)

Apologies, but where does it state a 'new design', and the apologies for the absolutely diabolical capsule they've produced & withdrawn this year? I have only read the quoted post above, and can't see that?

(This post isn't supposed to come across as rude or abrupt, either!) :)

I have seen that they replied to someone's comment about the current capsules leaking and they said that the design had been changed to rectify this issue. So there should at least be minor changes to them.

:)

Fantastic, Thank you! I hadn't looked on the Facebook page, as I didn't see the link! Whoops!

I hope they've changed enough of the design to resolve most, if not all, of the issues experienced this year, through bad build quality. I do, however, get the feeling all we will see is an extra air hole at the top, on the other side, to release air when full & being transported around the park(s).

With the 3 month extention, does this mean that they'll actually allow refills at midway attractions with postmix machines?

Or is this purely so you can benefit jan-march at warwick and chessie?

In the post Merlin posted on Facebook about the new capsules at the bottom it says this:

The potential issues that have been fed back regarding previous versions have been resolved and we will be providing further information in December.

So hopefully we might get a perfect bottle next year!

Something to balance out the air pressure please :p Last time I got one, every time you closed the lid the contents fizzed up out of the straw xD

With the capsules bought later in the year they did put some little holes in the lid to stop the drink fizzing up through the straw, I would hope they take than into account with the new one.

Or at least making it clear where the fill line is on the capsule so they don't get overfilled and thus the liquid doesn't pop out.

I don't understand how hard it can be to make a simple bottle with a screw lid? I don't need a straw, I'm not five.

I wish they could give you another card, sort of like a drinks annual pass, could then bring your own bottle in and fill it up. Cheaper for Merlin, better for people who hate their cups.

If they did that, I might actually get one.

Thinking about it, how hard could it be to simply have that as an add on to your normal MAP? It wouldn't need an extra card, it could all be software. Simply scan the barcode and the till says "GIVE THIS MAN WHAT HE WANTS!" :p

Software would cost thousands to implement (and build), stickers would come off eventually.

But an extra card would be handy, however it would be easy to buy the card on behalf of an non-AP holder. If it had a photo on, would work, but would cost more I guess.

I thinks stick to the same system but make it a screw cap. So we can put it in bags etc. and it shouldn't leak.

Wasn't something said about passes having a cup symbol on them or something this year to show that you're entitled to refills? Surely that could be used in some way to allow for the things you mention above...

The issue with allowing the filling of own bottles is that they can't control how many get filled. With the capsules they know what they are filling. You could feasibly go to different outlets and fill different bottles to give out to different people.

Couldn't you use the official bottles and pour it into unofficial bottles though? If people really wanted to get more drinks and spread them around, its not exactly difficult!

I know a few people like to pour the refills into better bottles and do so with no problems. I'm just saying cut out the middleman. Perhaps have some software that scans a QR or bar code on the card and system wide only allows one refill every 30 mins or something? It wouldn't cost that much to implement I wouldn't think. Could do it with something S simple as an app on the employees smart phone.

When asking why I can't fill up my own bottle, when it's clear that I do indeed own a MAP bottle, I've often been told that it's because of "hygiene issues".

I've never quite understood this; I half think it's just a cop-out response (even though I've been told it by more than one person, in more than one park), but the only thing I can think of is that 'normal' bottles tend to be too tall to easily fit under the postmix dispensers, meaning that the lips of such bottles touch the postmix nozzles. I'm dubious about this theory, though...
