Features We'd Like to See on the New Forum

We do not currently have a spell check function on the forums, and it is unlikely we will introduce one either unless demand is high for one. :)

There are a lot of browsers that have built in spell checkers these days (such as Google Chrome and Safari) so we do not feel that the forum needs one as built in ones are already widely available.

Also on a previous forum we found the spell check feature caused alot of slowdown on the forum.

When was the last major browser release that didn't have a spell check included? Must be a few years...

Technically some new Mac's with Safari will use autocorrect but it could just cause more spelling errors. I would welcome the return of it as I still need to go over my spelling a lot anyway and it would save the Team a job of editing posts.

All Apple devices work this way also, causes more errors than corrects at times.

Turning off auto correct was one of the first things I did when I got my iPad :p
I too would welcome a built in spell checker, but only if it was actually good. The old TT one was rather poor. For a start, it used a US dictionary, which instantly made the term "spell checker" a joke. Also, nomatter how many times I clicked "add" it would never learn words. And given how many unusual spellings there are in the theme park world, that gets rather tedious. It would be nice to have something to correct me when I mis-spell "Schwarzkopf" or "Maurer Söhne" (both of which I just had to look up :p )

Maybe a customised coaster geek spell checker is just what we need?

Only a very minor thing, but with the addition of an icon when 'adding to the home screen,' on iOS and Android, etc. I would like to see a simple splash screen on startup, which is very easy to do - but gives such a professional 'finish' to the site!

With respect I strongly disagree - splash screens on the Internet nowadays look cheap, tacky, and is a nightmare for getting the site ranked highly on Google/other search engines. It also affects usability, as it adds a 'click' for everyone who visits the site! (Geek moment: you should be able to access any information required on a site within 3 clicks :p )

Sorry if this confused you, but by 'splash screen,' I didn't mean a 'click here to enter' splash screen you would find as an index page on a domain on a beginner site, but more what would pop up when you loaded something like an app from an iOS home screen, before a menu screen/main content. This is quite a common technique in web apps, and in my opinion doesn't look tacky. It wouldn't create any more clicks (or taps) and I believe splash screens are almost required for an app to be posted on the app store/android marketplace.

In olden days I was able to upload photos via tapatalk, but on here I seem unable. Is this an error on my behalf, or something that needs to be clicked on by the team - if you do wish?

Or, alternatively, with my noobish knowledge, is there a way to easily upload photos from a mobile?

Ah, misunderstood you - apologies! :)

Do you mean the "startup images" for web clips?

http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#DOCUMENTATION/AppleApplications/Reference/SafariWebContent/ConfiguringWebApplications/ConfiguringWebApplications.html.

They're pretty straightforward to add, but if I remember correctly they are somewhat buggy when you try to launch them in landscape mode on iOS.

Yes Jordan, that is what I meant.

If by 'buggy,' you mean when you change the orientation of the device when this is displayed, you get left with a white bar at the top.

This was rather annoying when I was once trying to develop a web app, but for - as you mentioned the simplicity - that really doesn't matter to me.

A small one, I know, but do people really still read and write in AM and PM. Surely everyone uses a 24hr clock now? Just grates on me reading that this post is made at 04.50PM, which looks wrong to me.

Yeah, I agree. Either 4:50pm (without the leading zero) or 16:50 would make more sense.

SMF has some really weird design decisions for things like this. Also the chevrons around the post date, I don't get what use they have?

You can change how times/dates are displayed on the forum. Click profile at the top of the forum > Account settings > Look and layout. Near the top is an option for how you want dates and times to be displayed.

Just looked at that, and the only option for a 24hr clock is with the retarded American date format. (month, day, year)
