Football Discussion

No other business would pay a bonus if they weren’t making profit so I don’t think we should either

But think about it. How many thousands as he actually saved doing that. I'm guessing the saving will at least pay a player......... For a week, maybe two.

The contracts may not be him. But at alot is now.

Putting up ticket prices and binning off concession. The week a protest a old Trafford and Anfield are planned from United, Liverpool, city and Everton supporters. Stupid.

The Dan ashworth situation.

The ten hag situation

Making staff pay for their own transport to Wembley.

Asking and then having a paddy when the government say no to building you a stadium

Relegation would only mean he takes control further and the share price will have tanked. Those players wages will still need paying till someone comes in. The losses on transfers will be incredible.

The bloke is just like the glaziers. There to take millions and give nothing back. Time united fans saw passed the awful PR.

Sad news tonight, Denis Law, perhaps one of the greatest Scottish players of all time and the last of the United holy trinity, had passed away at the age of 84.

You won't find a Scottish player of his kind again.

It is surely time for the Premier league to start listening to supporters and do something about the ticket pricing.

I know my club has spoken to the supporters unions and frozen prices for now. Which commendable. For both the unions and the club. Other clubs supporters are not being listened to. And the loyalty is being charged and a extortionate rate. LFC put there prices up to 2% last summer, which will account for £2 million extra revenue. Which seems pointless. That turd at united, looked at his supporters, saw the protest at ticket pricing and thought "let's put ours up, we have £14.1 million to pay Ten Hag." Or levy at spurs, happy to charge the disabled, the pensioners and children full price.

Clubs make far more from Sky, TNT and the rest. (Let's not start on there over charging, leading to a rise Illegal streams.) Let's create a system where ticket prices are capped and concessions are kept. Look at finding ways those who can't afford to pay for a ticket, to see the games at a reasonable rate

How long did it take for the campaign "20 is plenty" for away fans to get anywhere?

Even then had to compromise at £30.

Nowadays the fans these clubs want in the stadia are day trippers who'll spend money at the stadium/club shop. Chris from Liverpool might be priced out now but plenty will pay to take the seat.

Ratcliffe knocking up the kids pricing for Manure to £66 is disgusting.

Chris from Liverpool shouldn't. It would help if Liverpool didn't have 11,000 corporate. Never mind the touts.

Don't gete started on Radcliffe. Making redundancys to help manure get out of debt. Pays himself a handsome salary. Not to mention the £14.1 million to sack a man, months after a new contract.

Chris from Liverpool should save himself the money and watch Marine in the National League North for £15.
Most people are immediately disinterested when they hear non-league football but the quality in the UK is very good, you can also mingle with away fans, stand on terraces and drink alcohol.

Even if Liverpool did eliminate the 11,000 corporate tickets they'd still be massively be oversubscribed for people wanting tickets. I joined the season ticket waiting list around the 02/03 season by writing a letter to the club. Still haven't got one. The waiting list has been closed since 2011 when FSG digitised the whole thing. God knows how many people were in it by that point, probably wasn't helped by when fancards were brought in around 2006 you could tick a box to join the waiting list.

I'm quite lucky, I've been in the autocup schemes every year since they launched so get to all of them. Have a couple of away credits in the league cup so have my ticket for the final next month sorted. (4 friends just missed out in the ballot). And just about manage to keep in the 4+ home games category each season which allows me a greater chance of tickets to the bigger games the following season.

However I also enter the local ballots for league tickets and never get one. And every late availability sale I'm regularly getting more than an hour queue for a miniscule amount of tickets.

In the end there's no 'fair' way to do all this, you've got season ticket holders who have them just because they were born at the right time, or had them passed down or transferred to them. Then probably a ridiculous number of members paying £30 a season for the chance to buy tickets. Even then I'm lucky as I live in the city so can attend games last minute if tickets go on sale late, and I know people who know I'd be interested in taking their tickets as well if they can't make it to the city.

Hate all the complaints about out of towers and tourists as well. I've been to watch Liverpool in America and had a great time talking football in bars in Boston and around Fenway. Can only assume the people complaining would never think of attending a football game (or another sport) when visiting another country.

End of the day Liverpool being a world famous and pretty successful side featuring footballers from across the globe is always going to increase the fan base. And in a ever shrinking world planning a once in a lifetime trip to Anfield (or another club of your choice) is easier than it's ever been.

With the recent price freeze the club actually mentioned them trying to do something to make the ability for all members to have a real possibility of attending games, I've no clue how they can do this nowadays though. When early rounds of fa and league cups sell out immediately. Long gone are the days when you'd go to these games and you'd have a gate of less than 30k. Even look back at when we played Monaco in the first game on the road to Istanbul and we didn't have a full house that night.

Think more annoying than the corporate tickets, which let's face it are the only reason we're playing in a 61,000 capacity ground than a 45,000 one is the massive touting industry.
It looks bad on the club and the city for a start. And I just think the club and the council could eliminate it much much quicker. Simply just start buying all of them yourself, then cancel the memberships and season tickets that are doing it all.

Really is a shame the gap of the bottom 3 to Man Utd is as big as it is. Otherwise there'd be a semi decent chance of them going down.

Unfortunately the current bottom 3 all look fairly abject. Which says a lot about current state of play in the pyramid moreso.

The gulf between the Championship and the Premier League is just so huge now. For 2 seasons in a row we are going to see the 3 promoted teams go straight back down, and all this does is make the gap even bigger.

Those that stay up get financially stronger and invest in more quality players. A side coming up is just not able to invest in the same way.

Wolves looked a real mess towards the start of the season but have turned that around and their quality is now showing. It's no real surprise that we are heading straight back down; the bigger travesty is still how we managed to get relegated a couple of years ago with a team that had the likes of Tielemans, Maddison, Barnes, Vardy etc.

Look at the last 6

Luton Town. Did the thing where they got momentum at the right time. Took advantage of others being poor never had time to build on a league one side.

Sheffield united. Crawled to end but got through. Paul Heckingbottom is a Neil Warnock. Good at getting promoted and that's that.

Burnley. Tactically naive..Had the talent. Kompany wanted to be like Pep. When you come up, make sure you have a plan to defend. Also didn't help that star players the season before. We're all loaned to him.

Ipswich town. Same as Luton. Not had time to develop the league one side.

Leicester City. Lost a good manager. Hired a bloke because he lived nearby. Hired another manager because he managed a side briefly, and best Leicester.

Southampton. Took advantage of Leeds never handling Wembley

Southampton also had the "we're going to play in this manner" thing under Martin. Ignoring the fact that they weren't good enough to play like that in the Premier League.

Sometimes you just have to play to not lose. Cooper probably would've given at least a hope in staying up as he's semi decent at getting a defensive unit together. Friday's performance was anything but.

Leeds need a decent striker. Don't know much about Sheff Utd this season. Would Burnley's defence be as good in the league above? As for the play-offs it's always a lottery.

Oh and Palace need to try and do something at home. Away form is spectacular (5 wins on the trot in all comps ending 2-0) but dread every home game.

Bielsa did it with Leeds and kept them up. Issue is the season after they were absolutely spent.

I see Sir Jim's at it again. To save united. The free piece of fruit that canteen staff get is being taken away. I'm sure the canteen staff will be ok with it. Knowing full well that the pence saved, will help towards casimero's £350k a week.

Does look bad when you think how abject West Ham, Everton and Wolves have been and a month of being competent has removed any threat of relegation from any of those sides.

Sadly I'm not sure what can be done to bridge the gap. Clubs getting promoted know they can't spend big as they'll inevitably fall foul of both Premier league and football league spending rules. Plus the seemingly almost inevitable relegation puts off signing players, and big contracts, so clubs are just banking the Premier league money (and the parachute payments).

Feels like they've got about 3 options and non are that great.

1) abandon the parachute payments that are given to the relegated sides, and instead distribute those sizeable amounts across the leagues.

2) the championship effectively breaks from the football league and arranges it's own TV deal and sponsorships in an attempt to make more money.

3) the championship breaks from the football league, loses about 8 sides and becomes the Premier League 2. Both divisions of 18 sides. An increased TV deal to cover the top 2 divisions, maybe an new cup competition between PL2 and the PL1 teams not in Europe.

No matter if talk around money and gulf between leagues. 1 side, arguments for two buck the trend.

Ladies and gents I give you Brighton and Possible Brentford. Neither are swimming in brass, yet. By being sensible. Planning for the future. Good scouting and contingency plans. Manage to stay competitive.

Both sides. Brighton especially have lost key players for big money. Never seems to affect them. Plus, have always been able to replace managers with sensible choices. Continuing the growth. Getting managers that suit the style of the players already at the club..Manure take note.

Like I said above. Getting to the premier league is hard. Some clubs are coming up way to early.
