It's stupid. He brought in two trophies - including the Champions League - yet he's been sacked after less than a year. Since Mourinho became manager in 2004, they've been through eight managers, including di Matteo. It's a ridiculous situation. Abramovich isn't giving them any chances at all. What the hell's he playing at?! Someone on Twitter earlier raised an interesting point about what would have happened if Abramovich had owned Manchester United back in the 1980s when Sir Alex Ferguson had taken over as manager, because he didn't get off to the best of starts, but managed to turn things around. Now, I'm no fan of Chelsea, but frankly, Abramovich is a complete moron for not giving di Matteo enough of a chance and being way too harsh.

Exactly Jon, It's not like he's done terrible anyway, he's appreciated among Chelsea fans as both a Former Manager and Player, but Ambramovich doesn't see that ::) Interesting fact about Ferguson is that he was appointed Man united Manager in 1986 but didn't win their first trophy until 1990 (Which I tend not to look back on ;)).But I'm sure he would have been sacked well before then if Ambramovich was owner of Man United in the 80's.

Back to Di Matteo, He's not won in about 5 games, but He's only lost about 2 or 3 games this season which is a decent record (Maybe not for a top 4 team), He needed a chance. A Comparison I can make is when Palace lost their first 3 games this season, did The owners sack Dougie Freedman at that point? No of course they didn't, we gave him another chance and he won a Manager of the month award!

Disgraceful, Chelsea are one of those clubs who care about Money and Ambramovich is a ridiculous man. Modern football disgusts me ::)

And why was that? Ah, yes, I remember - we beat you in the FA Cup Final replay at Wembley. ;)

He shouldn't have been sacked I fully agree with you, but to be honest things are going badly and show no signs of improving. The defence is poor, the attack is poor and we struggle to play well if Oscar, Mata and Hazard aren't on. He would have walked eventually, even if he hadn't gone today.

As a method though you can't really argue with sacking and reappointing managers. If you look at the last 10 years and compare United's success with ours, the difference is only 1 Premier League more for United but about 4 FA Cups more for us. Both stability and instability produce results.

Paul Jewel has been announced as the new manager for Chelsea

Ha, proof that tool Abramovich has no idea how to run a football club. Why is it possible for such an idiot to wind up with so much money, and more importantly the chairman of a football club? Chelsea have just replaced Liverpool as the club I most like to laugh at after they sacked the man who won them the Champions League just 5 months ago.

I don't care about his billions, that prick ever takes over Everton or Scunny and I'm boycotting. :p

Only Chelsea could sack their manager 6 months after an FA Cup/European Cup double.

It's looking like Benitez will replace him, which is tragic for me, but it's bemusing how opposed so many Chelsea fans are to the idea of the man who knocked them out of two CL semi-finals and won the competition in his first season, with a Liverpool side that only made it into the competition because Newcastle lost to Southampton.

Firstly, he's not the chairman he's the owner. Secondly, whatever influence he might yield over the management - I and all Chelsea fans are indebted to him for what he's put into the club in the past 10 years. He might make crazy decisions that people disagree with, but what you can't disagree with is his commitment and the successes that have come as a direct result of him. There is no way I would countenance him leaving. Absolutely no way.

Benitez has as of about an hour ago been confirmed as the new "interim first team manager." Thank God that means he'll probably be gone by the summer. What you seem to have missed is the fact that he was only good in the Champions League - which we are as good as out of already whether he presides over a win in the final group game or not. I dread to think how he will shackle our midfield maestros - Mata and Hazard will probably be employed as wingbacks for the rest of the season on the basis of his previous tactics.

And anyone thinking he will have any influence over Torres - dream on. He's finished. Even the FSW can do nothing now.

Only good in Europe? In his penultimate season he got us within 4 points of winning the league, even with a massive slump during winter.

Although I had to laugh at the Chelsea fan I saw saying "Benitez is a poor manager, he only won the CL on penalties, he fluked it". You just don't get that sort of irony elsewhere.

I could have written that, it's what I meant anyway. He has invested so much (over 1 billion I think) into the club - of his own money. He's written off large amounts of debt by converting it to equity, to his detriment. He clearly loves the club and loves football - I can forgive his eccentricities as the benefits outweigh the downsides.

Maybe you don't mind, but I value class over cash personally.

General breaking news seems to be pointing to QPR sacking Mark Hughes.

Not surprising really!

He was doing a pretty bad job, so I'm not at all surprised he's gone. It was only a matter of time!

I hope QPR break Derby's record for least points in the Premier league. Scummy Club

Now now, I think it's quite nice that Derby hold that record! :p

Looks like they are going to appoint Redknapp to replace Hughes, and I'm pretty sure the main reason that they sacked Hughes today was to avoid the risk of missing Harry by him going for the Ukraine job.

:)

European football's governing body Uefa is considering ditching the Europa League in favour of extending the Champions League from 32 to 64 teams.
I'm against this smaller European teams have got no chance with the likes of Barcelona and other European giants

Nonono! The champions league should be an elite competition for the best clubs from each country in UEFA.

The Europa League needs scaling down rather than scrapping. It's much better to have two competitions, and the only reason the EL has has stick is because it massively increased the number of games that needed to be played compared with the UEFA Cup.

Pointless and will only devalue the competition. Platini needs to go IMO, his ideas of 'spreading football' around Europe and the world are too radical and ultimately impractical.
