Football Discussion

Not going to work. I like the Europa League, as it gives smaller teams a chance at European football. Scrapping it and making the Champion's League bigger will be very unpopular and could cause problems across the continent.

It's not really the "Champions" League if teams that are finishing seventh in the premiership are competing in it? I seriously hate Modern Football

Or when teams that WON the previous year's competition are contesting in it, you mean?

The European cup had this format: teams that were competing in it had to be champions of their league or had one the European Cup the season prior. You're suggesting to me that I said that teams who won the champions league the previous season can't compete in the competition the next season? No I never said that, they're competing because they're Champions of Europe, it's not that hard to figure out...

You may not have said it but I can deduce nothing else from your comment than the sarcasm that a team that finished 6th was in the competition this season. The only way in which that could ever occur is if that team won the previous year's competition, and therefore are Champions of Europe. And now you say that it's OK for teams that win the competition to be in it the next season. Seems a bit contradictory to me.

Also, people who say it should only be the top 4 teams and that the previous year winner's shouldn't be able to defend their crown if they haven't finished in the top 4 are deluded. If you are officially the Champions of Europe then it's simply ludicrous to say that you can't be in the competition the next season.

The point you're missing here is that I'm saying that champions should compete in the Champions League, not once did I say that Chelsea shouldn't be competing this year because they finished sixth in the league. What I meant in my first point was that a team finishing anywhere outside the top 4 should NOT be in the champions league unless they win it, is it seriously that hard for you to figure out? Not once did I say that a team can't compete in the Champions League if they finish outside the top 4 even if they win it the same season, stop making stuff up.

Of course Champions League winners can compete in the next year's competition if they finish outside of the qualification spots. For instance take Aston Villa; they won the league in 1981 and earn their spot in the European Cup, but they finished 11th in the old Division in 1982. However Villa won the European Cup that year and earned the European Cup spot in the 1982-83 campaign to defend their title. Same thing applied to Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Man United and most recently; Chelsea.

No I'm not contradicting myself, you're completely missing the point of my first post.

What I meant in this post that teams finishing seventh in the Premiership shouldn't be in the Champions League because they weren't champions. No where did I mention that Champions league winners of that season couldn't compete in the next one if they finished outside the top 4. I believe that the Champions League should be for "Champions" like the old European Cup was. If Chelsea win the Champions League again (which is now looking unlikely) but finish outside the top 4 in the 2012-2013 Premiership season, should they be allowed to compete in the Champions League in 2013-14 Campaign? Yes they should.

I really hope you understand now

It's not looking good for Newcastle over the last few games slightly worried but on the other hand I'm liking seeing stoke in 9th

Oh dear
Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy could miss up to three months of action after suffering a thigh injury, the club have confirmed.

Ruddy, 26, tore his thigh against former club Everton on 24 November.

It is the second time in a year Ruddy has suffered disappointment through injury after he withdrew from England's Euro 2012 squad with a broken finger.

He eventually made his England debut in the 2-1 win over Italy in August, keeping a second-half clean sheet.

"Just to update everyone on my injury, unfortunately I have torn my thigh and will be having surgery on Saturday and out for up to three months," Ruddy posted on Twitter.

He joined Norwich from Everton for a fee of £250,000 in July 2010 and helped the Canaries gain promotion to the Premier League in his first year at the club.

After finishing 12th in the Premier League last season, Ruddy was rewarded for his fine displays with a new four-year deal in June.

Oh I see now, I thought you were having a dig because we finished 6th and got into the CL by virtue of winning it. I now see that you were merely making a hypothetical statement based on the proposed Europa League positions being in the Champions League :)

Top Man! Glad you understand now! =)

Just wanted to say That I'm really pleased Palace beat scummy Brighton! It was a absolute fantastic game and one we needed to win, there's one thing to win but it's another to beat your arch rivals by 3 goals to nil! Now we're top of the league again!

Feeling glad all over! ;D

Just wanted to say, for the next couple hours, I'm a Wimbledon fan. Really hope they give franchise:mk a good thrashing! :p

Come on you Dons!

We've got Stoke at home in the FA Cup, not a bad tie, I was hoping for someone better or easier. But at least we're not playing a Northern Championship team again!

Also hope Newcastle destroy Brighton. =)

Everton have got probably the most boring possible draw, away at either Cheltenham or Hereford. :p

However, I'll be spending the weekend at Hillsborough with my SWFC supporting mate, hoping that franchise:mk get well and truly killed by Wednesday. :p

I really enjoyed watching the MK Dons vs AFC Wimbledon game earlier. It was a good game of English football that in the end either side could have won. I felt absolutely gutted for Wimbledon when MK got the winner, especially it came just after Wimbledon could have won it themselves. The Wimbledon fans were fantastic too.

:)

Well,if my home team can beat mansfield we have liverpool at cincil bank, will have to be going to see that

That's if the game is able to go ahead, Lincoln had to cancel a pre-season friendly against us (Leicester) at the last minute due to "safety concerns", if they can't cope with our fans in a friendly then god help them with an FA Cup tie! :p

I guess it must be due to high demand for tickets, but I must wonder why Lincoln fans and people in Lincoln would get so excited over a pre season friendly against Leicester!
