Football Discussion

Lots of rumours, and might I emphasise the rumours, that Sir Alex will call it a day at the end of this season. No official word as of yet, I think if he does he'd announce it himself at OT this weekend.

As a United fan, I hope not for obvious reasons but also as I still think he's got another couple of years in him, but it wouldn't surprise me either. Sooner or later, it's going to happen.

Greatest manager of all time.
 
The rumours are pointing to an announcement before the week is out! So pretty imminent...
 
I'm not overly worried. If Fergie leaves, then that's his decision - we'll just have to find a new manager, and if that does happen, then I bleeding well hope that we get someone decent to fill his shoes. It's also worth noting that he's scheduled to have hip surgery two weeks before the start of next season.

Oh, and Scott, there's a potential statement from United tomorrow morning at 10am.
 
Man U are listed on the NYSE and that would have to be announced there I believe from what I've read. Which would make it about 2:30pm apparently.

Gaining momentum this is!
 
Solskjaer or Moyes joining Fergie for next season before he retires AND Ronaldo returning? ;)

Although didn't Rafa drop a hint last night that 'eveyone know who will be at Chelsea next year'?
 
Well, this day was always going to come. Fergie's the only manager in the Football league to have been appointed before the creation of the Premier League. Thirteen Premier League trophies, 5 FA Cups, 2 Champions Leagues...in terms of trophies, he's one of the most successful managers this country's ever seen. He'll be a very tough act to follow.

Klopp for me. The fact he knows a few half decent central midfielders is a bonus.
 
I'd love Klopp, but definitely wouldn't say no to Mourinho if he brings Ronaldo and Alonso with him.

So, every time a Chelsea manager is sacked, United fans look condescendingly down and say something along the lines of "you need stability, one manager that has time to build his own team and grow into the club."

As soon as Fergie retires - they want Mourinho. Stays 3 years max but guarantees success.

Moyes wouldn't be up to the job I don't think, He's not powerful enough for United IMO.

Jose wouldn't be bad short-term, but if he bought Ronaldo back, his stint at Chelsea will be forgiven forgiven. Just.

Ronny may well be back anyway, isn't that the rumor?

I think that any United fan who thinks that whoever replaces Fergie will stay for 10/20+ years is foolish. managers rarely do - SAF seemed to be the exception.

As a Utd fan I want Mourinho, for his charm and charisma. However i doubt we can realistically afford him. Everywhere he has been it seems he spends a fortune.

Moyes, hmmmm, not sure. Could work could fail?

What seems odd is the timing. To me its obvious they wanted Guardiola and this has been planned all season. After all they did have secret meetings in New York earlier in the season. Now Pep has choosen another route, I hope we are not left with a plan B, or, C should Mourinho go back to Chelsea? Thats not Fergie's style and I get the feeling there is more to this than Fergie deciding to leave as he has had enough.
 
I would help that United fans would respect the decision, regardless if they don't want that person?

Unless they want to look like Chelsea of course...
 
I so hope they get Moyes.

Lucien Favre is my outside tip to replace Fergie.

Mourinho is pretty much certain for the Chelsea job, Moyes' has never won anything and isn't good enough for a club like Man United, Klopp is (I think) likely to want to stay on at BVB and build a dynasty (plus if he came he'd have to sell half the team and buy about 10 players for it to work out), they won't want to give it to someone with no experience managing in a major league, so that rules out Ole and Mike Phelan.

Favre has worked wonders at Gladbach, and being someone who watches quite a bit of Bundesliga the football he plays is top notch. He has also guided Herta BSC to 4th and won the league with Zurich (For the first time in 20 years, then managed to retain it the year after). I'm not saying I 100% think he will replace Fergie, but he's worth considering as a potential candidate.

So yeah, Favre. You heard it here first.. :p
