Football Discussion

Looks set to be Moyes.

I've always liked Moyes and like the way he does his business, considering he gets little funds he does very well and has produced/brought in some great players in his time inc. Rooney, Fellaini and Baines.

A club like United go for long-term managers, stability and British. He ticks all the boxes. Yes he hasn't won a trophy but United is his real chance now. Be interesting to see which 'fans' stick around during what is likely to be a difficult transitional period. I hope that if things don't start off well the board stick by him and give him a proper chance like SAF received, although things are much different now than in 1986.

Everton will suffer I think. A lot of their fans seem to think Moyes should have gone a while ago but I think without him they'd be fighting down in the bottom half. Only time will tell.

Yakubu - £11m
Baines - £6m
Bilyaletdinov - £10m
Heitinga - £6m
Johnson - £8.6m

Granted in the last few years his new spend has been negative, but it's not like he's never been given as little money as they like to make out.

Different subject but worth posting.

Considering Fergie'll be in the backroom as a director/mentor, it's way too early to base judgement on the decision right now... Moyes has only had two managerial jobs as well so it's hard to say what sort of impact he will make or if there will be a massive change to the team (which would've happened with Mourinho coming in, possibly ruining the stability of the current squad)...

They could also bring in Baines and Fellaini... Get rid of Rooney, maybe fund in for a decent ball winning midfielder to team up with Carrick...

Actually, Baines and Zaha on one wing? That could be very interesting for them...

Either way, it'll be an interesting few months, but with Fergie still there, I cannot see there being much change to the whole thing...

6 years? That is waaaaay too risque with a manager with an astounding 0 trophies, yes he is a good man manager and yes he can manage ex-United players but SIX YEARS is a 1.5/10 occurrence anyway. Good luck Mr. Moyes, I doubt Fergie's new role could still motivate the players as well as he seem to do. This is why bringing in players from an old club is always a good thing *points to DF at Bolton*.

Baines and Fellani have churned and circled the United rumour mill for years now anyway so I think United will be fine for the first few seasons let's say...

I've noticed that it's only Liverpool fans slating Moyes, the majority are saying it's a good appointment and I agree.

Fergie hand-picked him, but hell what does he know about football?

Moyes has my full backing.

One trophy. Bottling big matches. 0 wins at the big clubs.

I agree, as a Liverpool supporter, I think it's a great appointment, I fully back the decision.

I don't want to get too involved in the whole Moyes discussion, it's just too funny. :p

One thing I do want to bring up though, is this amazing story. While here in England we have fans being ripped off, being treated like criminals, being viewed as "consumers", having clubs stolen from their community & a club having its entire history and image being sold out by a foreign businessman, the best team in Germany refunded season tickets because they won the league too easily. The all German CL final at the home of English football can't come soon enough! :p

That's a parody that takes the piss out of the band-wagon, arse-liking sycophancy that's sprung up around German football. Although when I saw it the other day it had me for the first paragraph.

Equally as funny people on a forum think they know more about it than Sir Alex ;)

Fair enough, fair enough, I'll get involved in this discussion then.

Personally, I don't think that just because SAF picked Moyes makes him this indisputable best manager for Man United. Do you honestly think that he:

Can cope with the pressure of replacing the best manager in the clubs history?
Can deal with signing big players for big money?
Will be able to entice big players from abroad more than the other major English clubs? Do you think the likes of Cavani & Falcao would rather play under Mourinho or Moyes? (Assuming Jose goes to Chelsea of course)
Will build a good enough team to take on the Spanish/German heavyweights in the CL?
Will play good enough football to take on the Spanish/German heavyweights in the CL?
Will be able to cope with the work load of managing one of sports biggest teams?
Will be able to hit the ground running to overcome the initial doubters? (Of which there will be many)
Will be able to cope if he does badly in the first 6 or so games?

Secondly, forget about Fergie wanting Moyes, who would you personally prefer, Moyes or Mourinho? Just out of interest. :)
