Can you really see Ronaldo being tempted back by the man behind Everton's longest trophy draught, their lowest ever points total, and all despite spending more money than any manager before him?
 
Do you not think that SAF and the board would have taken all of these things and many more into consideration though?

My main concern is Champions League as of course he's not experienced in it but SAF is going to be around which will help for however long he remains a director.

I'm not expecting instant success either, and I hope other United fans don't and remain patient. Fans which turn their back on him if things don't start well aren't real fans. I trust Sir Alex and the rest of the directors that they've picked the most suitable man for the job and given that SAF gave us 26 years of success, his recommendation deserves to be respected. There is no one that can replace Sir Alex and everyone knows this. His success won't ever be emulated.

A lot of what you mentioned remains to be seen yes, but name me a manager which isn't a gamble?

Mourinho would probably bring success, but on top of that he'd create tension within the staff at the club and would probably put himself before others, that's just his nature. I love Mourinho, but he wouldn't be long-term and bring stability. Moyes will bring that.

So to answer your question, if I wanted short-term, Mourinho, long-term, I'd have Moyes over Mourinho.

I don't mean this in a snotty way, but I'm going to back the decision SAF and the rest of the board have made over anyone else.

I can't. But I think appointing Moyes straight away is a bigger gamble than some of the options that could have been taken. Especially giving him a six year contract. For me, Mourinho would have been the prefect replacement. He's probably one of a very small group of people who I think could manage the massive pressure of replacing Fergie. Yes, it wouldn't work out long term, he'd probably have given you about 7-8 trophies in 4-5 years then left, but then whoever came in after that would be able to build on that success and attempt to start a long term project, much like Moyes will be doing.

But the huge advantage for me the "long term" appointment after Jose would have over Moyes being brought in straight away is that they wouldn't have the massive pressure that's came with directly replacing the best ever. Yes, they'd still have some pressure, but for me Jose would have acted as a sort of "buffer" between Fergie and the next long term appointment, easing pressure on whoever would have replaced Mourinho. (Which, imo, would've still been Moyes)

I do think Moyes could do a good job in building his own legacy at Old Trafford, but not straight after SAF has retired. I honestly can't see him coping with the pressure, plus I can see a few bad results in August & September resulting in a downwards spiral that I don't think he would be able to get out of.

Oh, and on the whole "Fergie knows what he's doing picking Moyes" thing, who was it that Matt Busby selected to replace him after he retired? Surely it was someone good, who must have been more than capable to manage such a big team if even the great Sir Matt...

Oh wait, it was Wilf McGuinness. Who sacked as manager just under halfway into his second season. :p

Busby didn't pick him, but other than that it's a superb point.

Absolutely insane finish. Shouldn't want Watford to win but I can't help it when Zola is their manager. They deserved it based on the season also.
 
Glad Watford won because they finished 3rd. Hopefully they'll win the final so I don't have to do the annual 'play-offs are a money spinning farce' rant.
