I know you have always been a detractor of Moyes, and given what happened with us & M'ON I wasn't sure you were right. I'm still not. You cannot argue though with how Martinez has changed Everton in such a relatively small amount of time! I honestly thought you would be struggling mid table with Roberto in charge, I haven't rated the guy at all.

Time will tell of course, and I still question his defensive ability as a manager, but Everton seem a changed team already with some great additions to compliment the squad!

Man U on the other hand? ...

I agree with this, but you can compare like for like, Moyes has an embarrassment of riches in comparison to Martinez. Both filled "big boots" and made respective huge career moves. Let's not forget the size of Everton compared to Wigan, they are very much similar upwards moves in their careers and expectation levels.

Moyes is making some howlers, some of the comments attributed to him are diabolical! Any team with Kagawa, Rooney, RVP, Evra, Vidic, De Gea etc should be able to at least have a good crack at the UCL - Liverpool won it with a worse team and self belief.

He also sacked pretty much the entire back room staff, including some very talented individuals, rather than keeping some continuity.

It is possible he started to believe his own hype.

Hmm I disagree that you can really compare them. SAF achieved what no one has before and probably never will do again. Those aren't really 'big boots' to fill, it's more than that :).

I expect fans of other clubs, the media and pundits etc to jump on the bandwagon of get rid of Moyes if results don't improve etc, but what will be disappointing is if United fans do as well. I accepted back when Ferguson retired that the next few years will be testing for United and there's going to be a struggle.

If we win tomorrow and grab a win against Sunderland on Saturday, it's not a bad position going into the international break.

I'm not comparing Everton to Man U, but don't forget that Everton are presently not where there history dictates they should be. Moyes overachieved consistently on a relatively small budget, Fergie created something remarkable in his own image, Moyes very much did the same at Everton. It was natural for DM to make the next step up in a career, likewise RM has done the same. What I meant was in their respective career points, they are both big roles to take on. I think it does Everton a disservice to suggest that 11 years of consistent great results, knocking on the door of the top 4, even fighting off the lauded MON & Lerners billions - as a Villa fan, his performances with Everton irked us!!

They both move into very different roles, with very different expectation levels - whilst you cannot compare Fergie/Man U with DM/Everton, what you can do is realise they were the countries two most stabilised well run and often over achieving clubs. Yes I include Man U in that, because at times Fergie did bend logic with his results.

Fergie is irreplaceable, a one off, but then in today's game, so in many ways was Moyes' Everton reign.

Ferguson. 27 years. 13 league titles. 2 European cups. 38 honours total.

So if Paisley stayed in the job for 27 years, that scales up to 18 league titles, 9 European cups and 60 honours total.
 
My personal opinion is Joe Fagan would have eclipsed all of them if he didn't quit after just a few seasons.
 
I don't get why they don't just have the games at night, seems the logical thing to me.

Then again, FIFA don't do logical nowadays.
 
Much better from United today, still not amazing but much better. We deserved the win.

Although Januzaj was sensational and his two goals were brilliant, credit must also go to De Gea for stopping what looked set to be a certain goal to keep it at 1-0. Watch his save on MOTD, it's fantastic.

Hopefully we can get our season going now, and hope that Young plays no part in it.
 
1-1 and I still have hope, go away to do something, check the full time score 1-3 to chelsea :( Not good, still I saw Norwich win last weekend so can't complain too much.
 
So Cardiff now have a 23 year old who was doing work experience at the club over the summer painting walls as head of recruitment!? The Cardiff City Comedy continues. I would feel sorry for them, but I despise Cardiff!

Predictions for tonight? Will England be looking forward to Rio come 10pm, or thinking about the play off?

I'm jinxing it, but I think England will get the win.

Correction. That is what a very small minority of "England fans" are like. Personally I would not call them fans. I'm an England fan and guess what, I'm not like that!

Meanwhile, during the same game an idiotic Poland fan (once again minority) decides to go onto the pitch.

It's not even from alcohol and 'passion' or whatever, it's pure, evil hatred of foreigners. Vile. But true, not all England fans are like that. Most of them are like this.
