Nemesis Reborn: General Discussion

Yeah, you’re right. The rust and such was added afterwards.

Though, in its later years it’s a shame they repainted the supports but left them a bluey grey without the rust effect and even the track was noticeably whiter.

Whilst at the time it felt positive it was getting some attention, that paint scheme was a real downgrade. Those opening day photos with the track painted to match the texture of the monster and the rusty steel supports really sold the ‘monster pinned down with steel’. The rust painted white track and plain grey supports just felt a bit half-arsed

I agree. Unfortunately I never saw it in its original 1994 form. The first year I visited was 2002.

The one thing that worries me about Nemmy is her new eye. I just hope AT keep it maintained so it doesn't brake in the future.
Given how the giant eye stole the show in terms of theming and has become a popular photo spot for many guests alike, it would be in Merlin's best interest to keep it working; even with many a budget cut this is one piece of theming upkeep that they would make an exception to keep it working as best they can.

I have no idea how they actually project the "eye" onto the screen however I am fully anticipating a Windows blue screen appearing on it at some point in the future

In fairness to Towers, and the team who created and installed it, I've not heard of it going wrong or being switched off once this season - with the way social media is, something like that would've gone viral in the theme park community pretty quickly if it had.

I'll take that back if someone can prove me wrong.

I dont think the "eyelashes"/tentacles have ever really worked properly on it have they however I don't recall seeing the eyeball itself breaking.

I guess never say never but I assume it uses similar technology to other projected assets in the park that all seem fairly reliable.

One thing I will say noticeably this season unless a big Maintence issue, is that all the effects around the park have been piroties and fairly consistent compared to other years. It’s clear Bianca, and the team have been working hard to get old effects back and working again (water falls, flame effects etc) But also keeping on top off smoke effects on wicket man, curse, valley etc. I can’t fault them there and was refreshing to see as well as a lot more themed lighting.

Regardless of cut backs there has been quite a few steps forward this year we easily forget.

I’m still a bit grumpy about the new soundtrack.

I understand their reasoning, and it seems popular among enthusiasts. However, I personally don’t like it. It reminds me of a corny Gerard Butler action movie.
That’s interesting to hear. A lot of people don’t seem to like the new soundtrack, but I actually much prefer it to the old one!

I’m not a music buff, so I can’t go terribly technical here, but I think it sounds a lot more dramatic and exciting than the old one did, for lack of a better term. It makes the area feel more alive, and makes the whole vibe around the ride feel more exciting and lively, in my view.

The old one, as good as it was, now sounds a lot flatter and less exciting by comparison for me.

It's a custom spherical led display. May be susceptible the odd 'pixel' failure as it ages, but you'd assume they wouldn't make it too hard to fix or replace.

Usually its a temperature thing, keeping them on keeps them from freezing and damaging the electronic components which I suspect would cost more than just keeping them on 24/7
I thought LEDs don't run warm enough to prevent freezing - it was one of the main gotchas discovered when traffic lights started to be changed to LEDs; they had to add little heating elements to melt off snow where previously the heat from incandescent bulbs did the trick.

These aren't just simple LED lights though - an LED screen has plenty of additional circuitry, which generates enough heat to keep it frost-free at the very least.

As someone who looks after a lot of outdoor tech, worst thing you can do over winter is switch it off - you drastically, drastically increase the chance of failure if you do!

Depends on their output really. Strong LEDs will have heatsinks at the back of them, some of my ceiling lights have them for example.
