Nemesis: Sub-Terra

It seems very odd, as that end of the queue line is all paving slabs and wooden fencing. So not sure that would need replacing, compared to the rotten wooden queue line. And even if they did need replacing, there wouldn’t be any point as sub Terra wouldn’t need all that extended queue line anyway.

I guess it could be for nemesis, but not really sure what they would need to do at that end of the site?

Imagine queueing all the way round that only to find Sub-Terra at the end of it

It was almost a very good attraction though. Nothing wrong with the main element of the ride for me. In fact I rather enjoyed it. It was the weird pre show and post show exit corridor that made it a bit of a mess.

If they are smart they can fix those issues relatively easily and just like that you've got a quality supporting attraction.

The scaffolding is interesting, though.
Interesting scaffolding?
No.
Not a thrilling worlds first.
Glad I didn't stay up to to watch, I managed to sleep through the excitement, and I'm proud to say I haven't even looked at the video.
More space for more punters to queue for a flat, less punters in the decent ride queues.
Bring it on.

So much hate for Sub Terra.

Sure it had flaws but was something else to do beyond coaster, coaster, coaster, broken dark ride, coaster, ad nauseum.

I usually enjoyed going through it, as much for seeing expressions and reactions than anything. Much like what I usually get out of Hex these days.

Might be if it reopens they'll attempt to fix things again. Prior to the scare corridor being tacked on they'd at least sorted the sequencing to make sense and what-not.

Presumably the things over the extended queue lines are canopy’s to work beneath, I guess they need cleaning, jet washing etc given it’s been out of use for ages.

Assume that the extended queue line is there on the basis that it might be needed during busier times, particularly with no nemesis.

yeah I think during perhaps Easter and school trips the extended queue for this would be very much needed

You would think that the length of time that has been spent renovating this rules out it being any kind of temporary scaremaze given the fact that Project 42 was knocked up in about a month with that jarg temporary camouflage tent thing put up outside it and the ride hardware covered with sheets.

I enjoyed sub terra when it was fully staffed. It genuinely scared the hell out of people.

I wonder with all the work taking place there if it could be a new pre show for Nemesis with the queue re routed through the building

I just don't see the point of that. A standalone attraction would make much more sense.

I agree. The going round in circles is driving me crazy! The fact the Phalanx logo and the whole building has been cleaned this early is clearly not for a ride that's not opening until 2024. Besides, Nemesis does NOT need any extra queue line.

I'm not even sure it's hate, it's just indifference to a thoroughly mediocre experience. I'm not sure that it breaks the cycle you've mentioned, as it was very much a broken dark ride, both technically and in concept.

In reality, when it was working, the ride sequence itself was probably the strongest element (along with the following lift sequence), it's just the pre-show, post-show and general application of the ride's effects and theming that needs attention - disco eggs are simply not a scary concept. If they improved the cave/egg sequence, it would go a very long way to generating a worthwhile dark ride experience. They also need to rework the post-show to no longer require actors whilst delivering a similar level of finale - actors are simply too expensive to be a viable option for a ride on this scale.

That said, whilst there's a large chunk of the ride's core audience that weren't bothered when it closed and won't be particularly bothered if it returns, as @Danscott22 says, it will likely do well during this year's school trip season. There's an entire audience of school aged riders who will have never ridden on Sub-terra during its first run and won't already have an existing opinion on it. To that audience, it is effectively a new ride, so I doubt it will be difficult to get them in for a first ride - whether they choose to re-ride, that will be the more interesting question.

A few points I noticed, One, on the screenshot of the squadding quads video, there appeared to be a section of queline on the path outside the ride that is new, to the left of the bag drop. Second, it is worth pointing out that work on this began at least before scarefest 2022, as it was believed to be what turned out to be the Invitation. The park have had plenty of time to do something in there. Thirdly, if my memory serves correctly, some people in AV branded clothing were seen around the ride just before scarefest, and I believe there was a shot of a new preshow video. Finally, it is worth remembering, that despite being old enough to have done Sub-Terra, I have never experienced the attraction, and most of my peers do not even know it is there. They could comfortably brand it as a new attraction, and I do believe something will go in there to cover Nemesis. It may not be world class, but it will certainly beat a broken super trooper, and has plenty of queue to hold a fair few punters.

It’s also worth noting that the first attraction you come to as you walk to Forbidden Valley from The Curse at Alton Manor (which is likely to have a lot of people down there this season) is Nemesis Sub Terra. If people notice it’s being used finally, that might be enough of a draw in, particularly if most people have no clue what’s inside.

Still can't see it opening on the 18th given there's been no announcements or teaser etc. Obviously not expecting anything on the Alton Manor scale for marketing but we've had nothing so I'm pretty sure this won't be open for a while yet. Maybe late spring.

I think if Sub-Terra is back there won't be any marketing, it will just return. Maybe they will put "back for 2023" on the map, but unless there is a major change like Thorpe are doing with Ghost Train I don't think they will acknowledge Sub-Terra on social media at all.

Makes no sense to spend thousands of pounds doing it back up again to not even put a tweet out.

Fairly sure there will be an update on the Nemesis return which will tie into NST or whatever is in its place.

As others say, perhaps not for opening day of the season but then I can’t imagine it will be long afterwards if not as they’re clearly working now to get it ready soonish.
