Oblivion: General Discussion

Pretty woeful ops on Oblivion today. 1 station, 4 shuttles with dispatches every 75 seconds or so, meaning throughput was only around 768pph.

Shame really when we know what it’s capable of achieving.

How busy is the park? It's known to run on one station if the place is quiet.

I find it bizzare that Oblivion ever gets to 40 minutes-ish, and that people will still join the back of the queue. You can get it on 20 minutes max 90% of the time, even on busy days.

I mean, from my experiences on Oblivion, due to how short the ride is, with most of the ride being on the brake run. Depending on the staff who are running the station, they can be varied in how quick they are in getting guests on and off the ride.
It shows how well they're trained in that regard!

The only downside is when they have to halt Oblivion on the rare occasion as a guest has brought their phone on the ride and attempt to record a POV without authorization or safety equipment.

Hadn’t appreciated how bad the Oblivion station had got in terms of dirt and facade sections literally having been removed or fallen off.

Hope it is in line for some work soon.

wow i had no idea how bad it had gotten! definitely expecting a refurbishment partial or even full station rebuild over the 2024 winter season. that will almost definitely get put down as some sort of safety issue especially seeing how tight the world is reguarding H&S these days.

its a very eficient ride can have 16 people per train and with multiple trains running it destroys the queues. usually catch it on walk on even in peak times like mid august for example, only time i see it get high queue times is if its just reopened from a closure.

In parts it is literally screwed together by plywood.

It was in a shocking state yesterday. Coupled with a lot of downtime.

Can’t moan too much, shoots of life in the park are showing, a lot to fix though.

I am curious whether this would require planning permission, if so when would it be expected to be submitted (didn't the Rcade building get submitted during the off season?)

The overall theme of oblivion is getting tired now.

I listened to theme tune earlier and it's not aging particularly well. Nothing screams late 90s than that track.
I dunno, I personally really love the 90s theme of the ride with the soundtrack and videos. That’s one thing I don’t think should change in a refurbishment, even other members of my group when visiting say how much they love the 90s feel to the music and they wouldn’t want that to change.

I like the music for its vibe, but it is definitely stuck in its time period. I would like to see Oblivion's theme be expanded on, but I wouldn't mind if the ride had a complete re-theme.

X-Sector needs a revamp, keep the name and 1984 theme but maybe go for a Cyberpunk or Blade Runner look which would be quite a unique theme if done right, plus having a sort of light instead of yet another dark theme would be welcomed and balance out light and dark themes in general on the park and if Oblivion is to see something then I wouldn't be surprised if talks have started at MMM over what and if they should do with the current theme at this moment in time.

I think it would be awesome if they took some design cues from Oblivion The Black Hole at Gardaland for a potential Oblivion refurbishment, personally.

The theming on that ride looks awesome, and I think something similar, albeit adjusted for the premise of Oblivion, would be excellent!

Something about the Oblivion soundtrack and the man’s voice ‘there is no happy ending’ I hope never changes.

But realistically everything changes, even if it’s just being refreshed/refined. As long as it stays Oblivion, the name is non-negotiable.

Ah, Oblivion. One of the last Pearsons rides at the park still in its original form. If you asked me a few years back in which ride I'd thematically keep the same from the 90s, Nemesis or Oblivion, I'd pick nemesis without a doubt, but since that's no longer possible, I think Oblivion should be approached differently than Nemesis Reborn. I've always been a sucker for its theme, and I think the queue is near to perfect. The eerie ambient soundtrack, the creepy guy on the TVs, the queue path being a slow spiral uphill to the station, building anticipation. I love the brutalised architecture in the queue as well, really does emphasise the theme and tone.

Personally I'm not a fan of Oblivion The Black hole as a theme. It looks very similar to Reborns theme, very dramatic, over the top, crowded, very military like, but credit where its due, its like a funky Sci fi military than a modern bland one like the Phalanx.

Out of all the issues with the ride, the theme and music aren't one of them. For me, it's how it clashes with smiler and how smiler does the same back. I think they really need to embrace the original theme more in X Sector, perhaps give Smiler a new entrance plaza that fits in a bit more.

Another is the station itself. Yeah, it looks like it needs a total rebuild, though I can bet on Merlin that they'll make it look architecturally less interesting, and paint the new one black and add orange stripes to it.

A new flat ride would be nice to accompany Oblivion, maybe even reusing Oblivions brand but with a spin.

Personally, I've never had an uncomfortable experience on the ride, always glass smooth for me. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I don't see it needing a retrack any time soon.

it'd be nice if they have the queue a good TLC and clean though.
Oh, and when you're at it, please give the pit a clean and bring back the "don't look down" audio on the drop.

Just don't give Oblivion lore... not knowing is what makes it work so well. Fear of the unknown.

I'm not saying anything is wrong with that. It could just do with a little tidy up. Bit of clean, maybe a more 2020 version of the theme tune.

The overall look feel is great. The oblivion logo is timeless. The slabs on the queue line are for me, incredible bits of theming. Couple of areas need tidying. That weird turnstile bit as an example.

The last time I went, the theme tune was booming out and it was like a sore thumb. It sounded out of place, which is weird to say since it should be there.
