Phantasialand 2014: Chiapas

Seems like a great ride system from Intamin, I like the fact the ride moves with some pace with speedy lift hills, great drops and reversing turntables do their job very quickly (much like Thirteen does). This system would be the perfect replacement for Altons Log flume Just a shame they would never theme a ride to this level unless it was a £15m investment instead of a coaster which is unlikely.

The latest Mack system also offers high speed directional changes etc. and I would imagine the park would lean towards the German manufacturer rather than the Swiss, given Intamin's recent history.

That said, any kind of replacement of this calibre for The Flume would be much appreciated - The Flume is shabby, out of date and not up to standard.
 
For me the most impressive thing about Chiapas is how it just fits in so well with the area it is built. It just looks like it's always been there and you can't tell what new and what isn't new. From a theming perspective I think that is the biggest complement you can pay any new ride.

Certainly not perfect, looks good, but there's certainly a fair amount of milling about not doing much...

Aren't there rumours that the Colorado Adventure portion will be re-shedded in the future?

The ride system is so ridiculously quick though...

The disco scene is fab though, if a bit strange...

Yes, rumour at the moment is that the first warehouse which Chiapas and Colorado share will be removed, and hopefully the area landscaped. Personally I really hope this goes ahead, as that warehouse is pretty redundant now since having a path put through and several gaping great holes cut in it.

The shed was only added as a noise reduction system, but now there's the rock screen shielding the ride from the nearest houses in theory they could take the shed off without impacting on the noise levels emitted from the ride.

Personally I really hope it goes ahead, as it could look really nice seeing the two landscaped together, and it would create some much needed breathing space in the back end of Mexico. At the moment if you stand next to Tikal, Colorado's station, and Silverado Theatre it's pretty cramped, and can get crowded on busy days. It'd really be an improvement and help open it up a bit.

You will also notice that Colorado has indeed been painted dark green/black as had been suggested some weeks back. Not sure I'm too keen on that really...

Yep and a Pirate themed version (they could borrow some ideas from the flume theme at Legoland, without the the Lego) would suit the area the flume is at Towers perfectly. If they can't put buildings in the trees then keep an outdoor section, just make the indoor sections as good as Chiapas.

Stations a bit meh but the rest of the ride looks great.

It has a beautiful load of scenery from start to finish, the track switching is super fast, it's a ride of decent length and the disco room is probably the gayest thing I've ever seen on a ride :p

Looks really nice!
 
Love it. It's not the most high octane flume ride in the world but it still looks ace and will go some way to tempting me back this year.
 
It looks like German TV network RTL were doing live coverage of the event, and have produced this video from throughout the day. All I can say is hosting barnes ;)

Whatever the problems with the ride, that final drop is beyond absurd. Really, that thing is an absolute beast. I can't quite believe how big and steep it is every time I see a shot of it.

That enclosed area around the splashdown also looks like a very nice environment. This is what PL do best - creating perfect little self-contained packages of joy and wonder.

Honestly the transformation this park is going through is astounding in scale. Even from my first visit in 2007 there are many parts of the park now unrecognisable.

Just where will Phantasialand be in the next 10 years?!
 
Phantasialand do make big changes - but that's largely in part to their inability to physically expand.

Within 10 years I expect 2-3 further major attractions - including a replacement for Temple and Hollywood Tour.
 
Extreme land clearance is extreme...

Wouldn't be surprised if Hollywood Tour was next on the list, I didn't even know it existed 6 years ago...
 
It was announced today that the soundtrack for Chiapas was created by IMA Score! The masters of theme park music at the moment! And it is/will be available to buy at Phantasialand on CD.

Does anybody know if the trims are adjustable? I know EP can change the water level to affect the amount of splash, I wonder if Phantasialand can do the same with the trims? Unless it's trimmed to the most acceptable level of wetness already?

So many questions!
 
Personally, I wouldn't think so, considering that these trims appeared to be stuck on as an afterthought to fix the problem, rather than something which was planned from the start.

Would be nice if it did have the option to drench you on hotter days, as in the pre-launch video some of the splashes did look a little lacklustre (Though I'll pass full sentence upon riding). At least there's still River Quest just across the way if you fancy the risk of drowning :p
