PortAventura: General Discussion

From those pics, it doesn't look like a dark ride to me. You don't need to landscape inside a building, after all.

Unless you want to minimize the height of the building so it is less visible from the rest of the park?

I don't think it will be a dark ride either though. Sadly.

Why do they need another water ride anyway? I know it's Spain, but its not like they don't have three already. ::)

:)

True, but if they were doing that, wouldn't they just dig a big rectangular hole for the whole building?

To be fair, Alton have 3 water rides (not counting CATCF or Riverbank), and they're only truly enjoyable for about 3 weeks per year.

The water rides in PA attract massive queues on account of the heat, so it comes as no surprise to me to see another one being put in!

One thing I will be keen to see is the chosen theme - the promo art looked Polynesian but the area is China..

I know theme parks are naturals at overhyping, but the words 'GET READY FOR AN UNBELIEVABLE EXPERIENCE' would still be very weird if this is just a splash battle.

Looks more like Angkor Wat to me. So at least it's Asian.

That is a very good point. A Splash Battle certainly wouldn't be classed as an unbelievable experience in most people's eyes. Will be interesting to see what this does turn out to be. I'm leaning towards some form of dark ride, even if it is water based.

:)

There might be a chance of a whole new area being created? They've got the amount of land needed to create a whole new area.

Although with it near China it probably will end up being some form of extension.

Believe me PortAventura over-hype everything, it's not in your face like Merlin - but they do it to everything, this is there description of a play area in Far West:

In PortAventura the happiness of the children is very important to us so we created a host of attractions just for them, because we think they deserve everything. It’s precisely in PortAventura Far West where waiting for them is one of the most adventurous attractions for children, so kids can let their imaginations run wild. Delve into the Far West area of PortAventura and discover the mysterious maze of the BlackSmith, one of the attractions for children where children and adults can create their most fantastic adventures in the heart of PortAventura Far West. Despite the passage of years of disuse, the old and dilapidated maze of the BlackSmith still stands.

Dare to enter and discover all its secrets! You have to find the exit to the maze of the BlackSmith to get rid of the evil surprises that await you inside. In this fantastic PortAventura attraction of the Far West the children can enter the house of the thief BlackSmith and visit all parts of the house. Discover the rooms of the thief BlackSmith and run through each of the corridors. Reserved for only the bravest who dare to enter is the basement of one of the most fun attractions for children in PortAventura Far West. Inside you should demonstrate your ability to find the hideouts of this famous thief. Help the well-known thief to keep secret his only hiding place buried in this old blacksmiths workshop that has been converted into Obadiah Blunt’s Restaurant. Around the mythical labyrinth of the BlackSmith you will find all kinds of instruments and tools needed to work the iron, utensils forgoten by their former owner when the blacksmith’s became a famous restaurant. That is why you will find a space with tables and a few abandoned blocks where the cowboys tied their horses. Do not miss the incredible adventure in the maze of the BlackSmith in one of the most fun attractions for children in PortAventura Far West. - See more at: http://www.portaventura.co.uk/theme-park/far-west/far-west-rides/labyrinth-blacksmith#sthash.utXpTEIY.dpuf

Just to point this is a minimaly themed wooden shack with a few slides. So for a Splash Battle they're doing very well :D

I imagine the above text is mainly for search engine optimisation.. though I agree it's dire :p

I meant to post this photo last week:

Certainly looks more substantial that a Splash Battle.

:)

Works aren't really progressing too quickly at the moment are they? It looked pretty much like that two months ago.

There's rumours going around that it will be a prototype Mack water ride.

It's a massive ride area so I'm starting to believe that it's not simply a Splash Battle.

There's a lot of land that has been moved to the left side of that image. It looks like they've been concentrating on landscaping the new area at the moment.

Going from that, if it wasn't for the fact that PA already have one, I would be saying Mack were doing their own Prototype Rapids ride!

It certainly looks of that sort of scale and landscape style?

We shall see I guess!

As Sammy alluded to above, Mack Rides recently talked about a prototype new kayak/white water rafting ride they have in development, during a speech at... PortAventura!

I really hope it is this because it sounds absolutely awesome.

I agree, it would be fantastic if it was the prototype talked about in the video as it does sound amazing! Here's keeping our fingers crossed!

:)

Update October 2013

It seems they are actually stepping up a gear with new frame structures appearing around the site. and it looks like most of the landscaping is completed in the new mysterious ride area.

The enthusiasts over in Spain seem to be trying the same a few of us lot do in the UK asking workers what it is they're building.. and of course they know nothing! :p

According to rumours too the 2014 project will open in April 2014!

This is an idea someone has of what the attraction may be like (I'm not sure if they're guessing or have evidence though).

Two bits of PA news. :)

Park News - (12/5/13) According to this news report the Bonomi family (Investindustrial) has sold 49.9% of their shares in PortAventura to the KKR private investment group. This is thought to be a move to find an investment partner to help with the expansion of not just the theme park, but the growing expansion project announced earlier this year just outside that will feature hotels, retail and casinos.

2014 - New Family Ride - (12/5/13) A new picture of the construction site at PortAventura has revealed lots of new details and clearly shows off not only a ride station, but support buildings and where crews have clearly dug a trough through the terrain. Could this be for a new boat ride of some kind? The park already has a log ride, a big splash boat ride and a river rapids ride, so I’m wondering if this might be a Splash Battle style ride. Of course, it may not be a water ride at all and could be something entirely different and unique. Anyone know more?

Still don't know what this is, hoping it's the prototype Mack. Doesn't really look like an "unbelievable experience" at the moment, but whatever it is, it'll help Shambhala feel more integrated with the park. :)
