Russia vs NATO

A good read

It’s certainly interesting, at the moment Russia isn’t threatened directly so you would hope he realises this but I suppose if the rumours about him going round the bend are true we might be up a creek without a paddle.

If he did decide to go nuclear against a NATO country, I suppose the best we could hope for (selfishly) is that it's somewhere far away from us that gets targeted and Russia is wiped out in retaliation before it gets to bombing us. Obviously I hope that no-one ever uses a nuclear bomb again at all.

This is very interesting on the BBC Live feed. Russia are suggesting that it was because of comments made by Liz Trust which is why they put their nuclear forces on alert

To quote the feed….

"There had been statements by various representatives at various levels about possible conflict situations and even collisions and clashes between Nato and the Russian Federation," said Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Vladimir Putin.

"We consider such statements absolutely unacceptable. I will not name the authors of these statements, although it was the British foreign secretary."

It's not clear which comments by Truss the Russian government objects to, although on Sunday she said she said she would support individuals from the UK joining an international force to fight for Ukraine”

This idea what we are threatening Russia is rubbish, they've threatened and then invaded a country unprovoked and now we are the aggressors for putting sanctions on his regime?
We should keep the sanctions until they surrender unconditionally and remove there troops, we cannot let the tyrant win because then China will be getting ideas and it will cause a domino effect that will be far worse than this.
I really do think Putin is going around the bend, he's taken a risk far greater than any he's taken before and it doesn't seem as calculated at his other moves which he's made.

There have been rumours he is suffering from cancer. If so this makes this even more dangerous.

Reports from the last 15 mins that the Russian military have now started enhanced combat duty with their deterrence forces and are operating with extra staff.

I mean I’m not pretending to be a military expert but this does seem to be theatre to scare other countries, it hardly takes a lot of people to launch a missile so how any of this increases the readiness to use nukes doesn’t make sense.

If I’m honest it makes me think the rest of the world are going to assume that in normal times Russia couldn’t launch a retaliation of nuclear weapons because they don’t usually have enough staff to push the button!

Promisingly, Putin has reportedly said that he is willing to terminate attacks on civilians, and reiterated the importance of coming to a ceasefire in talks with Ukraine in a conversation with Emmanuel Macron, president of France: https://www.theguardian.com/world/l...08f0ccfaeb0d05#block-621cec088f08f0ccfaeb0d05

Also, Ukraine has reportedly sent papers requesting EU membership, with the request just now being signed off by the Ukrainian president.

I'm affraid we can't believe a word that comes out of this tyrants mouth, why on earth should he be attacking Ukraine's military never mind it's civilians in the first place. I hate to say it put these talks are probably just a publicity stunt as the Ukrainian president has said. He doesn't think they will succeed but says that even if there is a slight chance of ending the war then he'd be a bad president for not trying it.

Sounds like a fast track to creating a conflict that spreads across the rest of the former Soviet areas of the EU to me.

How on earth does Ukraine officially asking to join the EU, something they've been preparing to do for quite a while have anything to do with other EU countries getting into a conflict? The EU is not NATO and is not about defence. Ukraine is clearly hoping they can use this war as a fast track entry to the EU, something which when the wars finished they should absolutely be granted.

I sincerely hope this isn’t true because it will cause hundreds of civilian casualties and potentially drag NATO in to this to protect them

Yes let’s hope that’s not true, it’s far more realistic as a prospect than nukes being used.

I can’t see this ending well, how long will the west stand by and watch this go on, little girls being killed because of one man’s ego?
We stood up to one tyrant, the time is coming when we have to stand up to another.
