The Alton Towers Dungeon

They have a horrible histories maze in Warwick castle too, so the IP is definitely available to them.

My only issue with that as a theme is that it's a bit grim.

Yeah Towers would never go for another grim theme, that when isn't maintained they can carry off as being more realistic, would they? ;)

More I think about it, the more I think it might be what they go for too. Toadstool could easy be re-themed to fit with HH and they could easily put a HH Video in the Ice Age building for too at very little cost.

Definitely possible. And I wouldn't be totally against it either if that's the way they went.

Horrible Histories has passed it's peak, (probably makes it a great choice for Merlin) Newsround currently out does it in the viewing figures. It's hardly featured on the CBBC Youtube channel either.

HH seems to be very popular at Warwick Castle, so it would certainly be a good choice for Alton, in my opinion!

In other news, this is now being advertised around the park on the queue time boards:

And in the form of physical signs:

And Alton themselves have picked up on these advertisements:

2019 is certainly going to be an interesting year then... After spending an hour of your limited time at the park going through the carbon copy of an attraction that any visitor with a merlin has already done new dungeons (and paying to do so), you can walk a mile through a muddy field to sleep in a shed (which you are also paying for). Who actually thought any of this was a good idea?

Although, I have to say the most disappointing thing about this is that it actually had potential. Alton towers has a lot of history, a lot of which fits in with the theme of the dungeons. I know we already have a ride that is themed around the history/legend of the park, but something about the park and the surrounding areas could be interesting.

Instead though, it will be an unthemed (or "minimalistic theming" as towers prefer ) temporary copy of all the other dungeons that this time next year, will be too expensive to keep open and will just sit there, looking even worse that it does now.

Just please tell me they're not going to repaint the building. This is already looking like the worst addition to the park in a long time, and nothing will complete that more than the alton towers dungeons being in a purple/orange building with oompa loompas in the windows...

From those posters, it looks like it will feature the usual scenes found in all the other UK Dungeons- Nothing special. :(

As someone who is often overwhelmed by the sheer scope and depth of the rich history throughout this green and pleasant land, I'm thankful for Merlin's interpretation that only five events ever actually took place in history, and each ended with an air cannon going off, or everyone getting a bit wet.

I think I can see why they picked the Charlie ride to do this in as they can use the former queue as a pre show/photo area. Then the boat ride have scenes from famous names like Jack the Ripper and the lifts area is removed to add the 4 drop towers.

They did have to dig holes for the elevators but even still, I am not sure if we will be getting them here.

For those who are interested and have not seen, here is the link to a comprehensive gallery of pictures from when the building that will now house the dungeons, was gutted from Toyland Tours with subsequent Charlie construction. loads and loads of pictures inside and out the building throughout demolition and construction, very interesting.

I figured as ATA is no longer being updated and has not been for sometime, it is not a TS competitor, so posting a link to the site is ok, plus they are excellent pictures so are worth sharing with fellow fans.

I think that they will use the exit as the entrance and you get into the lifts to give the illusion of descent into the dungeons. I'm sure that they can attach a taller shipping container at the rear to accommodate the drop towers......

.....if not, you might find that somehow you will magically exit into the forbidden valley o_O

On a random note, do we reckon that a baggage hold will be added with this, like one was with TWD at Thorpe; a similar style of refurbishment?

Based on previous Merlin investments, it probably will be added and then closed after a few seasons. I only say that because nothing similar had occurred before with dbgt, swarm, smiler and 13.

On the plus side, many of us will always have things to fling at Merlin/Towers with Dungeons being the latest cock up addition.

I sometimes wonder why I still support this damn park...oh yeah, cause there's hee-haw in my neck of the woods or elsewhere for me to support. What on Earth did I do the deserve this? :(
