The Alton Towers Dungeon

I'm quite looking forward to this to be honest, I've only done one dungeons before. York, and that was several years ago, i enjoyed it.

I expect for all the casual AT visitors it may be their first dungeons experience.

If I recall correctly, isn't there quite a huge unused area of the building the boats have previously meandered through while empty between the offload and onload platforms of CATCF? Could that area to be utilised for the scenes that have been hinted at in the posters, before using the current boat ride? Could (would it be worth) the boat ride being amended to incorporate a small drop?

I'd hope it didn't end with the lifts, because they're pretty crap. Might be more suitable a the start.

I don't really care though, as I'm unlikely to ever bother with it.

There is indeed a huge unused area in the building, where a chocolate shop and function rooms were originally planned to appear.

Not quite sure how Dungeon attractions work, although I imagine the current exit will be used as an entrance, followed by a small pre-show room, then the existing lifts used to give the illusion of a 'descent' into the dungeons, followed by multiple rooms in the unused space, followed by the boat ride, followed by a finale scene in the current CATCF pre-show room.

There's lot of questions still to be answered on this project.

Will it operate like the other dungeons or will it be a scaled down version? I'm betting the latter.

Will it have an upcharge and will map holders get it included? I'm betting both on these points.

Will you have to pre-book before your visit to the park rather than just running straight there? Quite possibly.

It's so hard to know what they are thinking right now. However if it's a clone of the other dungeons I really don't see the point.

If it was free and quite unique, then it would be a good addition. If it was paid but open year round and not in the theme park it'd be a good addition. If it was in park and you had to pay for it, it would not be a good addition. I'd rather have a permanent scaremaze (or you know, mix together project and NST ;))

There are scare mazes in lots of parks around the world where there's an upcharge so it wouldn't be much different would it?

Like you though I'm hoping it's included but I seriously doubt it will be. No way their budget will stretch to this as it would take a decent amount of actors/staff to make it work. It's definitely going to be an upcharge attraction.

Or it’s included and they have to make more cuts elsewhere to make up for the extra staffing costs.

Probably wouldn't mind at all if it was an addition, but to take a 'free' family ride and replace it with an upcharge seems a bit crap when the family line up is already suffering.

Add to this a dark theme, an unoriginal and expensive to operate attraction, it's hard to imagine this lasting long or being value for money.

A little disappointed to see the generic rooms from other Dungeons being included here. But I'll cross my fingers there is something a little more 'towers' to it. I imagine the up-sell due to people having to book specific times. The queue would be huge if left to a usual towers system due to the small batch numbers. Hoping that they do include free MAP access mind, if not I'll just leave it and head to York or Edinburgh instead.

How often would you visit a dungeon attraction (at any location) without a MAP? I'm betting the vast majority would say just the once. It's never going to change that much to warrant an extra visit is it unless for example you have a MAP and can visit whenever you like.

So the early betting/thoughts that this attraction will only last about 3 years seem to be looking very likely. After 3 years everyone from the GP (more or less) will have had more than enough chance to experience it the one time. Then it will probably disappear.

Definitely looking likely a placeholder until they have the cash to redevelop the entire area.

About five years ago, when I still had a MAP, I ended up visiting the Tooley St Dungeon so often (every time one of you northern lot came to town) that I could tell when the actors deviated from the script. In some cases, I knew said script better than the actors!

To say it got boring would be an understatement.

I don't think I have ever been in one of them more than once come to think of it actually. Done London, York, Amsterdam and Blackpool (most recent one for me).

Even for the few seasons when I had a MAP i never felt compelled to go back again. They are decent enough days out but not something I want to do again and again really.

And the less said about Tussauds the better. I'm not in the slightest bit interested in celebs. But that's for another day.

I've done the same four as you (five if you count both London locations). I'd say Amsterdam was the best, followed by York.

Next season we get sheds and an up sell copy of a midway attraction of which 4 already exist in the UK.

It’s like Merlin are actively trying to be a 4 letter word beginning in “s” and ending in “t”.

I don't think they've tried to palm the sheds off as a 'world's first' yet...surely they can't with the Dungeons?

I don't mind dungeons to be honest....mainly for the kids though as they love them

We've done blackpool, london, warwick castle and york

York MANY times as its quite local to us and the kids like to take new friends every now and again

I'm thinking the towers version may work in the same way as the warwick and be an upcharge....but have a limited number of slots for premium MAP holders

When i went to book a slot on entry to warwick castle at the start of the day they offered me what free slots they had and there really wasn't that many available

I really don’t think the drop towers will be used. Unless there is some alteration to the building
